it comes out here this week so i am going to see it, i saw Captain America yesterday and really enjoyed it.

I saw it today and really liked it. Looked great with a lot of out door scenes that really take you back to the old west. I liked the mix with the Sci-Fi in it, as it made it feel fresh to me.

Haven't seen it yet, but intend to.  They've finally done a movie combing the genres.  Early Sci-Fi borrowed scripts for westerns.  Sci-fi really took off after the Russians launched Sputnik,   Suddenly no one wanted to see westerns and sci-fi replaced them.    The movies Outland (High Noon) and Battle Beyond the Stars (The Magnificent Seven) are 2 movies that use Western scripts.

Rico

I did a whole podcast on the sub-genre of the Sci-Fi western.  Another film that comes to mind is "Westworld."

Bromptonboy

Westworld was great!  As for this new movie - if Olivia Wilde is in it, I am going to see it...

And don't forget the best of the bunch to combine the genres...FIREFLY! :)

I kinda like the idea of Rick the gunslinger. I got the date wrong though according to the cinema listings it's the 17th in the Uk. Have to see super 8 this weekend instead

Other entertaining sci-fi westerns:

Wild Wild West (series and/or movie)
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.

My local tv station ran them as a double feature Saturday mornings. Great way to start a weekend...

Just got back from this movie and really enjoyed it.  The movie has a very cool feel to it and is a nice blending of Sci-Fi and western.  I also thought this could easily have almost been an episode of "Firefly" in a way.  You've got a Mal type character in Daniel Craig, a beautiful girl, bar fights, gun fights, ships flying around and so forth.  Really well done and I love the scenery where the movie was filmed.  The aliens were pretty darn awesome too!  All in all, a very enjoyable time at the movies.  I'm not quite sure what some people were expecting when they went to see this one.  It is exactly what the title says - "Cowboys & Aliens."
Oh, one last thing I'll put in a spoiler box below.  Don't read this unless you don't care about spoilers....
Just like I had guessed from trailers a long while back, Olivia Wilde's character is an alien.  Her people had also been attacked by the bad guy aliens on her planet too.  I still think they should have hid that one a bit better since it comes into a play and is discovered in an unusual way in the film.
Rico, in response to your spoiler
I didn't see that coming. I really liked the idea but just didn't see it coming.
Rico

Look back in this thread a bit Will for our discussion on the topic/spoiler.

Looking forward to watching this but yes,
That has got to be the worse decision ever for what information to include in a trailer!
Truthfully, I don't think it's a huge deal really.  I'm just a bit surprised that they went the way they did with the things.  I'm also guessing that probably except for geeks and big movie guys like us, most people won't know anything until they see the movie.
