I know there has been a couple of threads that touch on mics but I'm looking for some recommendations for mid-priced mics that are good enough for quality voice recording but that won't break the bank, not necessarily the BEST that money can buy.

I think I'm looking at USB so that I can use it with computers and the iPad. I have a couple of ideas in the works and my USB headset just won't cut it. ;)

I can only comment on what i use for recording waffle on and thats the alesis mic. you can get one here http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?ref=gbase&Track=USBMICPDKIT and i have had no problems with it at all. :D

That's a reasonable price and you guys always sound good.

Do you use that with any sort if shield or just as it is?

I use a pop filter as well, that just stops and popping sounds or heavy breathing. You can pick them up at ebay, I got mine from ebay don;t pay no more than £12 though.

It doesn't stop your heavy breathing Meds... ;)

Dan, I use an MXL 990.  Both Amy and I have one and they work great for us.

Thanks for all the suggestions. :)

I assume these mics have a way if filtering out a lot of the background noise as I never hear anybody PC fans during podcasts. I have a real problem with this with my headset, it picks up everything!

I'm surprised how reasonably priced these are, they sound great on THWY!

Dan, Joyce and I both use Yeti's by Blue Microphone. Excellent mics, but $150 each. They are USB but excellent functionality, plus they are they only THX certified USB mics! We use pop filters as well, and I'm considering investing in a vocal sound shield to cut down on room echo a bit.
