Thanks for the great info Rick.  Yeah, I kind of feel the same way about those protectors.  I'm pretty careful with my stuff, so I think I'll keep the screen "naked" for now at least.

The funny part about this conversation....  if taken out of context... hehehe.   I know, I know...

I haven't used any screen protectors even with my iPod Touch 3rd Gen years ago and it hasn't caused me any trouble not to have it, so just don't drop it and you should be fine :)

Also, yeah, plugging in the USB stuff is a bit awkward, but I'm ok with it :)

I got a Screen protector for my touch when i got it a few years ago and it is ok. got the Apple one, so when it is in the case you do not know it is there. But the wife never bothered and hers is fine. Mind you i do take mine to work and it can be a bit dirty there.

For a phone I could see using a screen protector due to shoving in your pocket, glovebox, purses, wherever.  But I think just a nice case for the iPad should be ok.

Anyone have good suggestions for iPad 2 cases?  I'm not super thrilled with the "smart cover" so far.  Especially since it only covers the face of the unit.

I didn't use any case/protector on my iPhone 3G and I just use a very low profile case on my iPhone 4. I was at work one day and it happened to fall and get a little mark on the back glass, that caused me to get the slim case. When I'm skiing I have a heavier duty case in case I wipe out and land on my phone.

I don't like screen protectors, I find they reduce sensitivity of the touch screen and they are almost impossible to get on without air bubbles.

Looks like Fran might be getting an iPad 2 for her birthday so I'm paying closer attention to all these threads!

There are so many cases out there Rico, that it would almost be impossible to suggest a particular one.  And it also depends on how much protection you want, what functions you want with it, waterproof-or-no and what kind of material (plastic, leather, etc) you want on it.  Not to mention color.

That's a slick case Dan.  I think I want something much like the simple, black leather one Apple made for the iPad 1.  Fairly thin, lightweight, just to protect the shell a bit and cover it up when not in use.

I have three different cases for three different scenarios, the first, just the back plastic one that is form fitting and keeps from getting scratched in my everyday work, the second is a leather one that has a cover over the top of the glass that can be snapped on for protectiong, also it has a kickstand on the back of it so I can use it tilted up.  The third a bluetooth keyboard and case.  I use this when I'm typing up extensive notes or documents.  Here are the pictures below of them.

Thanks for the pics Rick.  Nice selection of case stuff you have there.  So many choices.

moyer777

I guess I should have said, they are pretty low cost, well two of them were.  I got the first one off of Amazon.com for like $4, the leather stand up one was around $12 off of Ebay, and then the most expensive one, the bluetooth keyboard case was $99.  Highway robbery if you ask me.  But that was what they are going for.

Yep it's heavy duty but thin, doubles as a stand and even puts the iPad into standby when I close the flap. If you fold back the flap it's even got a built in strap so you can hold the device one handed (for those of us with small hands!)

I should mention that if you did get a Apple Smart Cover, there are companies making thin, yet strong cases for the back of the iPad that work with the smart cover.  I'd link them, but I seem to have lost the link.  ergh.
