HBO GO/Xfinity new apps

I had to post about these new apps for those that subscribe to either HBO or Xfinity/Comcast cable TV.  Both are available for iPhone/iPad, dunno about other devices.  The HBO app instantly streams tons of movies and, most excitingly, EVERY EPISODE OF EVERY HBO ORIGINAL SERIES.  They also update frequently, so new episodes are available shortly after they originally air.  The HBO app works over WiFi and 3G, though if you have a weak 3G connection you switch over to audio stream only. 

The Xfinity app shows movies from all their premium channel providers, as well as original series from Showtime and Starz.  So far the Xfinity app only works over WiFi for streaming.  It also allows you to remotely control your cable box, functioning as a remote control and programming tool for your DVR service if you have it.

Offering this service is amazing to me, especially considering how expensive the DVD collections are of these series.  I've spent the last week or so catching up on series I never watched in their entirety, like "Hung" (which for some ridiculous reason I always thought had something to do with an American Idol contestant) and "Bored to Death."  I'm really loving it and might even ditch Netflix at this point.

How much?  Or is this just part of subscribing to HBO??

Oh yeah, of course the best part of all this is that as long as you subscribe it is completely free.

Can you a la carte HBO yet and get it only say via an App on your iPad?  That will be the day Comcast starts to weep!  ;)

No, but you don't have to have Comcast, there's a list of providers that the HBO app supports...although strangely enough, Time/Warner Cable is not one of them.  doesn't Time/Warner own HBO?
