CinemaCon: Pixar Attends Monsters University

Walt Disney Pictures officially announced today at CinemaCon that their Monsters, Inc. follow-up will indeed be a prequel and will officially be titled Monsters University.

Featuring the characters that first appeared in the hit 2001 Pixar film, Monsters University will again cast the voice talents of John Goodman and Billy Crystal in the roles of Sully and Mike, presumably telling the tale of their first meeting and their scare-filled education.

Monsters University will arrive in 3D and 2D theaters on November 2, 2012, following the June 22nd release of Brave, Pixar's first non-sequel since 2009's Up.

Can't wait.  Love anything they do - it seems.  Thankfully I have 2 young kids - so I can pretend I am going to the theater for them..  ;)

Dude...embrace you inner child and just GO! Just becareful though...if you embrace the inner child too long, well, that's just not right! :)

Are you guy kidding about having to take your kids so you can see these types of movies?

If your not kidding can I ask why you feel this way.. are you embarrassed to be seen alone (or kidless) watching a CG/Animated movie? Is it a macho thing? I'm just wondering as I have no kids and I've never been embarrassed to go to a animated movie alone or with friends.

I don't have kids either, but the wife and I did take my mom to see Wall-E. Great movie. If I want to see a movie I'm going no matter what kind it is. I really liked Monsters Inc. as did the wife. She has a little stuffed Sully hanging from her rearview mirror in her Rav4. We will be there!

Honestly, on the rare occasions when the wife and I have time without the kids for a movie night, Pixar isn't what we're going to see.  I think the last movie we saw in the theatre was Inglourious Basterds, to give you an idea of how often it happens.

Mostly, I enjoy being able to share these movies with the kids. I enjoy the tech side of it (the hair in wind effects in Kung Fu Panda are amazing, as are the gravel chunks in Wall-E).  And they get to see some really cool storytelling.

Fun for all of us to share, what's not to love?

I don't know what they can do to make the story as good as Monsters Inc. But I trust Pixar will make something fantastic.

My boys are going to freak out, especially my youngest.  Monster's Inc is by far his favorite animated film, we've seen it about 75 times now.  I cannot wait to take him to this.
