Hey Rico, how come it's not updatewing from iTunes?

Rico

My site seems a bit slow today.  It should be updating - but it might run slowly.  Let me know if you get it - eventually.

Bryancd

I just grabbed it and put it in another folder, thanks!

I've been trying off and on for th last 4 hours but I can't get a complete download. Twice I thought it finished but when I listened to it on my ipod it was only 29 minutes long.  :wallbash:

;D   Hi Rico,  The person in charge of the of a naval vessel is always refer to as "Captain" even when the person rank is higher or lower than that of a captain.

Sorry about the slowness of the downloads yesterday gang.  I just checked from my end this morning now (8/28) and it came through much faster.  Please post here if you are still having troubles.  Direct link if you need it:  http://www.treksf.com/podcast/Treksf.com_70_Motion_Picture.mp3

P.S.  Thanks Pierre about the Captain thing.  I thought that was probably the case.

I'm halfway through the podcast right now and, being a huge TMP fan, I am really enjoying it. I think you may have missed an opportunity, though. You took the time to describe the warm interaction between Kirk and Scotty in the travel pod but missed the most poignant moment in that scene. After Scotty's last line, he reaches over and gently grabs Kirks arm as a re-assurance of their friendship and commitment to each other and their duty. It's a great addition and, if memory serves, only the second time Scotty ever touches the Captain in that way. Can you name the firts? ;)
Also, maybe a mention of how the Decker/Ilia relationship is re-created in TNG with Riker and Troi.

Elizur

I'm just guessing, Bryan, but was it Doomsday Machine?

Bryancd

To be honest, I can't remember! I think it was the same TOS episode where Scotty call Kirk "Jim". maybe Doomsday Machine or Mirror, Mirror? Rick had this as a contest question on a previous podcast, I think.

Rico

Think it was "Mirror, Mirror" but not positive.  Yeah, I always liked that scene.  Always so much to cover doing these podcasts - hope I at least hit the highlights.  ;)

Rico,

I wanted to mention that I really liked this podcast.

1.  I like it when you run long.  Do that more often.
2.  I haven't seen TMP in about 10 years.  Geez, I need to watch it again.  I remember seeing this one in the theatre so clearly, thanks for taking me back.

It was definitely "Mirror, Mirror."  It happens just before the crew beam back to their universe.

Hi Rico,
I really liked this episode. I saw Star Trek The Motion Picture when I was five and I can remember being very confused by it. Obviously it wasn't written for a five-year-old, but my dad thought if I loved Star Wars and the Star Trek TV show, I'd love this movie too.

I can remember thinking that the people in the movie were all much older and more...umm...round... than the people on the TV show. From a child's perspective, they looked nothing like the crew I had seen in re-runs with my dad. I had no idea who these people were. :D

I can also remember thinking that the guy who was supposed to be "Bones", was psycho :wacko

His initial appearance in the movie was full of ranting about the transporter and the mission, all of which was unintelligible to a kindergartner. He always ranted on the TV show, but I guess when its coming from an old guy its much scarier.  His loud complaining was loosely translated in my childish mind as "I'm a nut case!"

The only person I recognized was Spock, but I thought he turned into a bad guy in between the show and the movie. :mad2:

Yep, your episode pretty much informed he that I need to watch the movie as a grown-up.     :)

One of your listeners asked about a Borg connection with V'ger and you said you hadn't heard anything, but if anyone else did to let you know.  William Shatner's novel "The Return" states that V'ger did come from the Borg home world.  In the story the Borg even think that Spock is part of the collective because of his mind meld he had with V'ger.
I love TMP.  I think it's the most epic and cinematic of all the Trek films.  I can understand why some don't like the slow pace, but I think it has amazing special effects that still hold up to this day...and I agree the music is fantastic.
