I waited to see it until today to be home to see it with my son.  Just got back.  I enjoyed it a lot.  Lots of fun stuff.  I thought the story was fine.  The effects were cool.  Oh, we went to a 3-D showing because it was the next time available.  Again - the 3-D was useless, in my opinion (and my son's too).  Heck, the movie previews before Tron was shown used it to better advantage.  I'll say it again, there was both no need and very little use of 3-D in this film.  If films keep doing this and pushing 3-D without really delivering on the experience this will end the 3-D phase we are in.  I've been hearing from many people that just feel it's a gimmick and is just over-hyped.  Anyway, fun movie - but I really wouldn't bother with the 3-D.  At least that was our view.  Probably get my son and talk on the podcast this weekend about it too.

Yeah, I don't think the environment lent itself well to taking advantage of 3D, which is odd considering it's all CG but males sense as it's all so dark. I didn't find 3D to add to the experience but I also don't think it took away either. I am ambivalent about it for this movie. I don't think it's success or failure as a 3D film is an indictment on the technology in general, though.

Rico

My point is the 3-D is again not needed and adds little to nothing to the film.  I've read a few more reviews now and people are getting more and more bothered by this film and others that advertise heavily the 3-D experience and it doesn't deliver on that.  This has happened for several films now.  So again, unless we get another "Avatar" at some point I still feel people are going to feel ripped off by the added cost without the payoff.

What did you think of the previews for "Mars Needs Moms","Cars 2", and "Pirates 4" in 3D. I thought the first two looked cool in 3D.

As I said above, looked more 3-D than Tron.  But again, won't make me see a movie I wouldn't see anyway.

What's the CGI Jeff Bridges like? I heard the mouth

x2, I thought that was the best effect in the film!

I saw Tron Legacy with my son and another family yesterday.  I really enjoyed the movie!  We did not see the 3D version but from what I am reading here I did not miss much.  I thought the movie stood on its own well without 3D effects.

THe CGI was very well rendered and the sound was excellent!  I didn't find much that I feel the need to criticize.  I will recommend it!

Now if I can just find a copy of the original movie to show my son....

Rico

Thought this pic was kind of funny.
