Title: QMx Stunt Movie Phaser
Post by: Rico on April 04, 2011, 03:32:35 PM
Ready to preorder this bad boy?  Looks pretty slick and it won't break the bank either.  I like the display stand too.  Only $49.95!

Wow, that looks great. Going to have a check at a few online retailers and see who has the best shipping rates. Nice price for sure.

Only $49?!?  Cool!

I got the pre-order email from QMX this morning and didn't bother opening it; I figured the thing would be in the $300 to $500 neighborhood.  But for $49?!? I'm in for TWO!  :)

Hmmm it's photographed well. At that price surely it must have a more plastic feel to it than the photos let on.

Nice design though.

Keep in mind this is a STUNT replica.  Those are typically resin based (plastic), sometimes metal plated (like this is).  They can look and feel pretty hefty and "real" in your hand.  Also keep in mind that unlike the toy version of this, there are no electronics, etc.  It's a static prop.  So, all that adds up to a pretty low-cost item.  QMx seems to be going low end or very high end with not a lot in between.  I still think it looks very sharp and it's a must buy for me.  :)

I have an efx stunt Count Dooku Saber that is plated and made of resin. It has the weight of a resin prop, so I am guessing this will be similar to that. The picture makes it look shiny, it might not be a shiny, but I suspect the plating will look good, and give it a bit of a shine, based off what I saw in my Dooku lightsaber. Different companies, but I am expecting similar feel to the QMX Star Trek phaser like the stunt Star Wars props from efx.

From what I have read over on the RPF it is metal plated.

From what I have read over on the RPF it is metal plated.

Obviously.  It says that right on the web order page:

Got pesky Romulans lurking in the shadows? Or Klingons off the starboard bow? All you need to ward them off is this gleaming 1:1 scale, screen-accurate replica of the stunt phaser used in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek.

Our replica has been cast from a first-generation master of the screen-used phaser. Its solid polystone core is precision metal-plated in several finishes – steel, gunmetal, aluminum block and chrome – to create an exact match of the actual hero phaser used in the movie.

The QMx Enterprise Metal-Plated Phaser Replica measures 10.5" long x 7" high (grip included) and weighs more than one pound. It comes with a custom-designed display stand in smoke-colored lucite and includes a brass name plaque.

All this for just $49.95.

Some of the other Retailer places have these for even less. I think Redford films have it for something like 42.99 or around there

Got my credit card statement and QMx already billed me for my phaser.  Guess I didn't realize they charge you that much in advance.  Well, hopefully it will ship next month.

Is that naughty or is it simply trying to guarantee a Market for what they're making? Things I used to pay a deposit for (new glasses) no longer work that way because too many people pulled out of what they'd contracted for.

Most collectibles I have ordered over the years only charge when they ship the item.  This was partly true because there were times preorders were many months ahead of shipping dates (even a year in some cases).  Now, some companies are charging small deposits up front and the rest at shipping.  I guess it's a sign of the times and the economy.  For a $50 item that will ship next month it doesn't bug me that much.  Now, if the item cost a lot more and wasn't going to ship for say six months it would bug me to pay for something that far in advance.  I doubt eyeglasses take more than a week or two to make, so charging up front seems fair to me.  Especially for something as custom as a pair of glasses.

Yeah, I can't argue with it either really but months ahead of delivery would be aggravating.

This BodyCombat Instructor begs to differ. (Guess we'll see in 20 years.)

...and your twenty years of age difference (but I guess Bryan's already pointed that out).

How many people simply collect these things to look at and how many can't resist playing with them and 'stunning' passers by?

Yeah.  It's a QMx item and they included it in some of their shipping boxes.  So I'm pretty sure you only got it if you ordered it direct from them.
