Looks like the classis Arnold movie is getting a do-over:

/me slams head on desk.
Why?

Sounds like they're going back to the original Phillip K. Dick story.
They need to call it something else though I think.
I like that they are going back to the original PKD story - but PLEASE....no Colin Farrel!!
As long as they use Robert Picardo's voice again.
Dunno, I think this could be good. As I recall, the original story had the main character as kind of a skinny nerd, not Arnie :)
Due out on August 3rd. Here's the trailer...

Looks great! True to the original story, not a hybrid story ie no Mars etc. Kate Beckinsale! :)
I'll have to "get my @ss" to ths movie! ;)
This was filmed here in Toronto so I'll look forward to trying to recognize any locations. God knows they blocked off Lakeshore Blvd enough times with their fancy future cars.
I thought Fight Club actually did Total Recall better than the Arnold version...
Will be cool to see if they did this one right...

Makes a good reply request too...
Just saw the trailer. Wonderful. Looks like it will be way better than the Paul Verhoeven version (at least I'm hoping so).

I'm really looking forward to this - for at least a couple of reasons. :wub
TOTAL RECALL Trailer 3 - 2012 Colin Farrell Movie - Official [HD] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvPR62fP8hk#ws)
Yeah, how did Colin Farrell get that lucky? I'd be willing for Kate to kick my butt!
Looking foward to seeing this for a couple of reasons. And one of them isn't Colin!
YEah, that picture would be great if we could air-brush out Colin.. ;)
Nice poster...
Should be interesting! It was the biggest budget move to ever be filmed here in Toronto.
I saw a commercial for this, and it looks great. I'll have to re-read the PJD story before seeing this movie.
Saw this today with Mark and enjoyed it quite a bit. Solid cast, great action and cool effects too. The scenery had a very Blade Runner look to it all. Very fun movie I thought with a good story. Go see it.
(and Colin Farrell is one lucky guy to be in a movie with both of these lovely ladies) :wub

How does it compare to the original??
Quite a bit different than the original so in my view you can't really compare them at all. I actually was never a huge fan of the first one, I always found it an ok movie but it wasn't a big favorite of mine.
LOVED the original but it had little to do with the actual book, which I hear this is a bot more true to. I'm going to see it at some point.
Just saw this last night on HBO. I have to say that I didn't particularly care for it. I loved seeing Kate - but I think I dislike Colin so much I couldn't enjoy the movie - so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
I agree, this was just 'eh'. Great effects, but no fun and not much heart to it. I'll just watch the Arnold movie, that's a fun ride.
I liked this one far more than the Arnold one. It was good sci-fi and more true to the source material. I like that in my adaptations.

Yes - that is how I usually feel - I dislike when movies stray too far from the source material. In this instance though.. ;) I did like the homages to the earlier film peppered throughout this one. Visually it was stunning, and the actresses... still didn't overcome my Farrellloathia
I have fond memories of the original film of course, but they did a disservice to this one by calling it "Total Recall". I think the association with the Ahhnold film is one thing that contributed to killing this one, they should have tried to distance it as much as possible and a great way would have been to call this movie "We can remember it for you wholesale". I thought this was pretty good and really entertaining. If anyone hasn't read some of the collections of Phillip K. Dick short stories yet, you're really missing out...MAKE IT SO
I watched the blu-ray of this from Netflix and I rated it a 6. Thought it was good because I really liked the special effects and the 2 ladies but I would say I enjoyed the Arnold one more. Still worth a watch if you get the chance.
