As most of you know I enjoy most of the movies I see - some more than others. It's rare that I really, really hate a movie. Well, this week I watched one that's at the top of my list of movies to avoid at all costs. The recent movie, "The Mist" based on a Stephen King story. I had heard fairly good things about it - well they were wrong. This movie starts off ok but goes bad quickly. The characters do some really dumb things and the ending ---- maybe one of the most awful endings I have ever seen. So if you haven't watched this here's Rico's warning. Stay away from it. Stay far away! :ohmy
I've found that the more Stephen King based movies they make, the worse they tend to get.
Yeah - it's definitely hit or miss. I just really wanted to warn people off this one.
Never even heard of this movie before now, but hey, I'll save $7.00 to avoid a bad movie.
Thanks Rico
King

Well now, I have to see it.
I really enjoyed the movie. But it doesn't suprise me to hear people hate it because most of the movies I love are sharply hated.
The ending is different. Most movies get tied up with a bow and the lights come up and everyone goes home. This one sticks with you for a few days. It felt to me like an Outer Limits episode (90s).
I wouldn't say everyone should avoid the film but I wouldn't watch it with small kids, or people who are sensitive and it could disturb.
Hey Alan - nice to see a new face! Welcome!
Yeah - obviously the movie wasn't for me but I'm glad someone enjoyed it.
I have to be honest, I have no desire to see it and Rico is usually easier on movies then I am, so now I think I will definitely stay away :)
Norbit tops my list of movies never to see again. Why Must Eddie Murphy put out such things? He was so good in the 80s.
My wife says she never wants to watch Napoleon Dynamite again.. but man, it just gets better and better each time. Geez.
One of my buddies loved Napoleon Dynamite so much he parodied it several times. I helped, I always played Kip.
It was a funny movie though and good for as low of budget it had. I did enjoy it myself.
did you stay home and eat all the frikin chips?
My freind was insanly annoying when it comes to napoleon dynamite, if he could he would probably get a fro (haha I have it) and nerd glasses.
Oh, it was a lot of fun playing Kip.

Wow Rick, I think our wives might be distantly related. My honey-bunny has absolutely NO use for this movie. "It is one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen" I believe were her exact words. I, on the other hand, laugh harder every time I see it.....which is obviously when the wife is not around.
I like Stephen King movies because they take me places I'm not comfortable going. And there is something about his charictors that makes me care what happens to them and don't want anything bad to happen to them... But always do like in IT, pet semitary, and all the others.
Oh god, "Pet Sematary." Almost walked out of that movie. It's kind of weird I can read King and be ok, but some of his movies - ugh! A couple things that I know I am very sensitive to are pets and kids in danger in films. I basically can't handle if bad things happen to them. They seem so innocent. And it seems King likes to pick on them in some of these stories. But that's just my personal achilles heel in movies I guess.
I have always held the opinion that the movies based on Stephen King's novels that are made for TV are far and away better than any of the ones that have gone to theater. My favorites are IT, The Stand and the Langoliers. TV doesn't allow you to be as graphic which leaves more to your imagination and leaves you to form the picture in your mind....which can be far more terrifying than a speical effect. It is what I love about his novels..he is graphic but gives just enough info to leave you to paint that horrifying image yourself.
The film versions of Pet Sematary and The Mist actually came pretty close to conveying the mood or feel that the written stories created. I agree that both were pretty harsh (esp. the ending of the film The Mist) but I found both to be watchable. I won't be seeing either of them again anytime soon, though.
I'd like to think that I wouldn't make the choices that the protagonists in the films made, but I can kind of see where they were coming from. What I appreciate about the stories (and to a lesser extent, the films) is that they made me stop and think to myself '..Crap. How would I react if I found myself in a similar situation?'
I would never do what they did at the end of "The Mist" in that type of situation. Never.
