SCI FI Channel Orders 3rd Season of “Eurekaâ€
http://www.sliceofscifi.com/2007/09/28/sci-fi-channel-orders-3rd-season-of-eureka/
SCI FI Channel has greenlit production on a third season of its most-watched Original Series “Eureka,†ordering 13 new hours of the dramedy. It was announced late yesterday (Thursday) by Mark Stern, SCI FI Channel’s Executive Vice President of Original Programming.
“Eureka†will begin production on a third season in Vancouver early next year for a summer 2008 premiere.
“Eureka rose to an even higher creative level in its sophomore season, combining entertaining, compelling stories with deeper character development and great cast chemistry. And clearly the audience noticed, bringing millions of new viewers to the Channel,†said Mark Stern.
In keeping with SCI FI’s mission to broaden the scope and appeal of its programming roster, “Eureka†is a relatable, earth-based dramedy credited with bringing in over 3 million new viewers to the Channel in its second season alone. The series premiere on July 18, 2006 broke Channel records and remains the highest rated series telecast in SCI FI history. “Eureka†continued to grow in its second season, achieving season high household and key demo ratings with its August 28th episode (2.1 HH, 1,654,000 adults 25-54).
“Eureka†seems like any other cozy Pacific Northwest town, but is actually a secret community of geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research. The result is a place where anything imaginable can happen… and does. Returning for a third season are stars Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson, Joe Morton, Jordan Hinson and Ed Quinn and executive producers Jaime Paglia and Charlie Craig. Eureka is a SCI FI Channel presentation and is produced and distributed by Universal Media Studios.
Yay! This is great news as "Eureka" is easily of our favorite shows on TV
Finally some news about Season three of Eureka.. the strike really hurt this series.
Morton Has Hopes For Eureka
Joe Morton, who co-stars as Henry Deacon on SCI FI Channel's original series Eureka, told SCI FI Wire that he hopes the upcoming third season will find Henry involved in stories with a political and environmental bent.
"Henry is, you know, the go-to guy for all things impossible," Morton said in an interview at the network's upfront presentation to advertisers in New York last week. Morton added that he'd like to see Henry "get involved in something political. Last year, I sort of ended up being carted off to prison. So I think there's a change again for him this year in terms of coming out of prison and where he is and getting over Kim and sort of starting a new life."
Production will begin shortly on the new season of Eureka, which was recently picked up for a new season. The new season will pick up the story of the residents of the small town with big secrets.
"I think, probably, it would be nice if politics was a thing, if the world economy was a thing, if he could find a way to use science to help people to make a better living, have a better life, etc., etc., and got involved in the world globally," Morton added.
New episodes of Eureka will premiere either later this year or in 2009. --Ian Spelling
Eureka Will Uncover Surprises
Colin Ferguson, who stars as Sheriff Jack Carter on the SCI FI Channel original series Eureka, told SCI FI Wire that fans are in for some major surprises when the show returns for its third season.
"Going back to season one, I loved season one," Ferguson said in an interview. "Season one was scary, because we didn't know if it was going to work. Part of it was funny, and part of it was dramatic, and we were making it, really, in this sort of void. So when it hit, it was great. And then season two we just tried to build on it. I think, for season three, what we're going to try to do is to really broaden things out."
Eureka centers on the quirky characters in a top-secret town where the government has placed its scientific geniuses. Next season, "there are some characters that are leaving," Ferguson said. "There are some others that are coming in. So it's going to be really sort of tumultuous, and, at the same time, we'll continue with a lot of the arcs that we did for my character, anyway. We'll continue with my daughter [Jordan Hinson as Zoe Carter] and grow in that direction."
Asked what else he hopes to learn about Carter during the new season, Ferguson replied that he's interested in exploring the character's personal and professional past. "I want to know about his history," Ferguson said. "I want know, what was he like as a marshal in L.A.? What was that like? I'd like to see some of that life, not every episode, but come back in and see a little bit of that." Eureka returns later this year or early next. --Ian Spelling
Eureka To Be Lighter
The creators of SCI FI Channel's original series Eureka told SCI FI Wire that they plan to lighten the tone of the upcoming third season and will continue the movie homages.
Speaking at a press day last week in Pasadena, Calif., producers Charlie Craig and Jaime Paglia said that the show is working on tributes to The War of the Worlds, The Truman Show and Groundhog Day.
"One that we've been wanting to do for a long time, Groundhog Day, I think, is the perfect episode thematically for our characters, especially for this guy," Paglia said, referring to the character of Sheriff Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson). "It involves 2 a.m. and ice water. That's all I'm going to say. Over and over again."
The show's tone got darker for a while, but now the producers plan to flesh out some of the characters and have them interact more. "Obviously every episode is still very stand-alone in terms of the mystery that has to be resolved this week," Paglia said. " We do have an ongoing deeper mystery that will be stretched out over those first eight [weeks of the upcoming third season]. Season one, we were all wanting to find our show, and I think that, ... overall, we were pretty pleased with what we came up with. Some were a little hit or miss. But the tone was very difficult to capture. And I think that ... [in season two] we really wanted to deepen those character relationships and get to know them a bit more, and we went to a slightly darker place with some of them. I'm glad that we did, but at the same time I think that ... [a] couple episodes strayed a little bit too far away from where, I think, our sort of sweet spot is. So we made a concerted effort ... this season to bring us back to the lighter side of Eureka and especially restoring some of the relationships that we were missing a little bit in season two."
Ferguson asked the creators during the press conference about a funny Journey to the Center of the Earth episode he heard about while on the set. "I just read it. It's great," Craig said. "I'm so out of the loop," complained Ferguson. "I guess I prefer to be; it's better for [my] character." Eureka returns this summer with new episodes. --Mike Szymanski
This summer?!?!? Yay!!! We are very excited for the third season and now extremely happy to hear they will return this year. I am also happy that they plan to lighten up the show. I had no complaints with last year but more light-heartedness is OK by me.
Eureka is Back - July 29
The little northwestern town where the most intelligent people in the world live and create the wondrous marvels of future technology is run by a Sheriff with an average I.Q., but who has the most common-sense of anyone living there.
"EUREKA" Returns Tuesday July 29 at 9/8C: Washington sends a "fixer" to make sure the residents are being productive citizens. Due to some government budgetary cuts they will now have to help pay their own way by creating products that can be sold on the open market.
The SCI FI Channel hit series stars Colin Ferguson (Sheriff Carter), Salli Richardson, Joe Morton, Jordan Hinson, Erica Cerra and Ed Quinn. The show has a very strong supporting cast that includes Neil Graystone, Francis Fisher joins the cast this season as Eva Thorne "The Fixer, Matt Frewer and Niall Matter. Of course the other star of the show is Sheriff Jack Carter's house, S.A.R.A.H., who will be in for some exciting changes this season.
Also, watch a sneak peek of "Sanctuary," the web-series turned weekly television show, starring Stargate actress Amanda Tapping –this Tuesday during the return of "Eureka."

How many watched the new season premiere? It rocked!
Good seeing everyone again. Don't really miss Beverly all that much. I think Henry will be let off after saving the world - again. Who's the new CEO ? Can't remember where I have seen her before. Nice having Sci-Fi Tue back. Unemployment is VERY boring.
Loved the new episode. Looks like it's going to be the beginning of a great season, again.
Loved the season premiere. I take it that the new CEO also works for whatever group that Beverly worked for. Also, anyone know what the substance in the vial was that she was holding?
To me, the premier felt like just more of the same. I liked it, but it didn't seem to go anywhere new. IT seems to work for some shows though. :P
What did everyone think of the show this week ? I had heard how this episode was going to change everything but I was not expecting THAT !!
Best show this season. Very talented writers
The sad thing. I enjoyed it. I had a feeling I knew what would happen. I was right about who, but not what.
On another note, anyone notice Allison Blake actually seems different this season? She seemed more emotional. I know she is happier this season, but things seem to have changed. I like it.
Yeah - that last scene was very sad but very memorable. I liked how each loop they said the same thing but in a slightly different context. From the preview for next week, looks like this storyline doesn't even continue. We'll see.
Just watched the recent episode.. WOW.. got tears in my eyes.. I love this series.
Great episode. Took me by surprise that anyone was leaving the show let alone who. Wow!! I think they will definitely mention the storyline but I just don't think it will be the focus...it'll be more of a subplot I think.
Also at the end after the credits I saw the "LISTEN" frame. Seemed to be there a bit too long to be "subliminal". Does anyone have any idea what that is about yet?

Eureka: More Shocks Coming
Oh, Eureka, death by time loop? With a sweet goodbye for a major character in last week's nod to Groundhog Day, "I Do Over," we're not only into the dog days of summer, but also the last four episodes of SCI FI Channel's original series Eureka before the midseason break.
Thanks to special effects that included runaway intelligent anti-missile drones and malfunctioning robotic dogs, Eureka's eight summer episodes are going to have an effect on the episodes that air in 2009, creator Jaime Paglia told SCI FI Wire.
"I think we've sort of found a new balance of our humor and character stories, with some really interesting sci-fi visuals," Paglia said in an interview. "They're just some of the biggest episodes that we've ever done in terms of the science of it. We'll be paying for that in the back 13."
Expect more character drama in the coming episodes, Paglia added. "We're going to have a little bit of makeups to do for the overages, the excess of the first eight," he said, referring to the visual-effects-heavy early episodes. "Ask the audience to be kind and let us do a few character episodes with not as much whiz-bang as the first eight. So when you see Carter [Colin Ferguson] and Allison [Salli Richardson-Whitfield] trapped in an elevator, just understand it's a necessary evil, and we'll make it as compelling and dramatic as possible."
We think he's kidding about that elevator.
Upcoming episodes will deal with a missing Egyptian mummy ("Show Me the Mummy"), a confused superhero ("Phased and Confused") and multiple suns, which can't be a good thing ("Here Come the Suns"). Paglia promised the producers will tie it all up as the mini-season comes to a close in "From Fear to Eternity." (You've got to admit, no show's writers come up with better bad pun titles than Eureka's!)
"The agenda of the Fixer [guest star Frances Fisher] will come to light," Paglia promised. "There will be some changes in the roles of the people in our town again. Some big endings and some new beginnings. There will definitely be a cliffhanger aspect to the end of episode eight. And then we'll dive into episode nine in the back 13 of this season with some big, big questions to resolve." (Spoiler ahead!)
If the endings get any bigger than Nathan Stark's (Ed Quinn) hero-making exit, that will be a surprise. Eureka airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. --Kathie Huddleston
Don't recall - was this beacuse of the writers strike ?
Are you asking about the split in the season??
If so.. I don't think it's because of the strike.. Sci Fi likes to split all there series in half.
Another good episode last night "Show me the mummy" :D
The Nathan/Allie storyline continued with some nice scenes. This is one of the best casts on TV. Really enjoying the show this year.

Yes, I just saw the mummy episdoe. It was well done.
Just watched the mid-season finale.. this show continues to amaze me. They make a character that you hate at the beginning of the season and do a 360 and make you fall in love (or at least like) her by the end. This is how you conclude a series.. give all the answer to the questions for that season. And of course we got a great cliffhanger.. now we wait till January.
Ahh I was going to ask how long until the series picks back up.
Couldn't agree more Kenny. Didn't really like Thorne, couldn't figure out what she was up too but in the end, she is not so bad after all. Marilyn and I were watching this last night and as soon as the General walked up I blurted "Aw crap they're gonna fire him and the show will end" My wife said something to the effect of "That would suck" and then....well now we have to wait for January.
By far one of my favorite shows on TV....Just love it.
I know it's all for the suspense but it made no sense Thorne would not just be up front about the whole thing. For being around 107 years - she's rather nieve. All in all, it was a good ending to the mid-season. So, the military fires the sheriff of a town full of geniuses that think up most of their weapon systems. This could have some comic results.
Good to see Joe and Zane back together. Hey, maybe if they have a kid - they can name him/her Zoe :D
There's a new character coming to town.. check out the preview here..

I miss Eureka.
Any clue as to when "later this year" might be?
I love this show. Throw a bunch of geniuses into a small town in the middle of nowhere and then give them unlimited funds (more or less). And then watch the new ideas and chaos build upon each other. Brilliant stuff!!!
The last I read was that it will be back in Spring or Summer of 2009 with only 10 more episodes.
Ferguson Talks about "Eureka" Season 3.5

One of the more frequent questions we get asked here at Slice of SciFi is "When is "Eureka" coming back"?
Well, we've got some good news for you. SciFi has confirmed that the popular series will be back in July for the second half of its third season. Unfortunately, we can't give you a specific date for the series' return, but as soon as we have it we'll let you know.
But before that, we do have some news about what you expect to see when the series finally returns. Fans may recall that last time we checked in on things in "Eureka," Sheriff Jack Carter has been removed from his office, Nathan Stark had sacrficed himself to save the town and his wife, Allison Blake has just discovered she was pregnant.
Actor Colin Ferguson said fans can expect the second half of the season to pick up right where things left off last summer.
"So that picks up right after there, where Salli is pregnant through the whole season," Ferguson told SciFi Wire. "One of Joe [Morton's] ... I keep using the actors' names ... One of Joe's long-lost loves comes back. My character has a love interest all the way through. And then Jordan [Hinson], my daughter, deals with "Is she going to go to college and leave Eureka or is she going to stay?" So all that stuff gets resolved."
Ferguson says that while the show hasn't been picked up for a fourth season, he does feel confident it will be back.
"It's definitely in the cards," he said. "They tell us we were not picked up, but they say, "You're coming back." So we're coming back, although we may go on a prolonged hiatus. We may not shoot for another 11 months, potentially, sort of to get us back onto a summer schedule. We shot through winter last year. In fact, we just wrapped. And that wasn't as fun as shooting in the middle of summer. So I think they're going to move us back to summer."
Ferguson's confidence wasn't always there in regards to the show. He cited examples of the network not being sure about the pilot and the cast filming scenes both as a comedy and a drama.
" I think SCI FI, in some ways, or this particular administration, has sort of cut their teeth a little bit on Eureka, sort of learning what they wanted a more mainstream show to be," Ferguson said. "And so that's been an amazing thing to be a part of, because we all feel very close as we all figured out where we wanted it to go, and at the same time we've definitely had some rough patches. So, was I confident out of the gate? No. I hoped that it would go, and I'm most pleased that what we did was validated and that it's still on the air. That's a nice feeling."
"Eureka" returns in July on SciFi.
That's one heck of a break! Can't wait. I love Eureka.
Fun show. Looking forward to it's return this summer.
So, this may have been discussed here before, but, I'm new :P I loved the series Eureka on SciFi. The first two seasons were very entertaining, the third was good, but the hour long info-mercial for Degree deoderant got a bit annoying. Just wondering, what happened? I thought they were coming back, but it's MIA... :jawdrop

"Eureka" Renewed
August 28, 2009 by Michael Hickerson
SyFy has given the green light for a fourth season of the quirky little town "Eureka."
The network picked up the option for a fourth season of 22 episodes, according to SciFi Wire. The current season was originally picked up for 21, but was cut back to 18 due to last year's writer's strike. The final episode of the third season airs tonight.
Actress Erica Cerra, who plays Deputy Jo Lupo, was happy that the show will continue for a fourth year.
"We were thrilled, and more so that it's 22 episodes," Cerra said. "Last year they made an attempt to do 21, I believe it was, and we got cut down to 18 because of the writers' strike. So we're thrilled, and the way we found out was so much fun, getting word before the end of the season. You're usually waiting until much later [to get word of renewal or cancellation]. I love working on this show, and we have a really great cast and crew, and we've got a good thing going. It's nice."
And it appears next year "Eureka" will take a page from the book of Whedon and bring us a musical episode.
"We're doing a musical episode—well, a two-part musical episode—next season," she said. "That will be very, very, very interesting. I have no idea what that will be about. I suppose the network and the writers feel comfortable with the fact that the cast can sing."
Laughing, Cerra added, "I know that Joe Morton has an amazing [voice]. I've heard Salli [Richardson-Whitfield] sing. Colin [Ferguson] has a fun voice. Niall [Matter], I don't think, can sing. And I don't sing. I can't, and I don't, so I'm going to have to take some singing lessons. I'm a little nervous. It's a little bit of pressure for people who don't, but I know that everyone's excited."
^^^^^
That is fantastic news. Eureka is definitely one of my favorites. I didn't think the final episode of the 3rd season was last friday though. I thought this friday was a viewers choice marathon then next friday was "all new".

This seems off as the final hasn't aired yet.
Also has anyone notices the the woman playing Tess is also a lead in Eastwick? Look like we're going to be loosing a character unless Tess can do two shows at once.
I was wondering the same thing as well.....t'would be a shame because I like Tess.....so does Jack.

Huh? I'm pretty sure Jack and Allison were never officially together before Nathan Stark came back into her life. And it was her son, no relation to Jack. Right?
