I built one of these back in '93, but I left it in NY when I moved. Found this on eBay for pretty cheap, still sealed. I think I might try to light it...I think for my first try this would be a good one, not too complicated.
I built that one way back when as well. No clue what happened to it. I really liked it, as I recall it was quite large!
Sweet, I never built that ne. makes me want to go and find an old Galileo 7 kit on e-bay...
..never mind, they are like $200!
Always liked that ship. Have fun putting her together.
Cool, that looks like it will be a lot of fun
Can't wait to see the finished product! Cool find for sure!!
Kevin
Looks great! Be sure to do a timelapse of construction or similar :)
Yeah, I may do that, maybe after all the pieces are out and pre-painted. I probably won't light it. I just don't have that skill set. Just gonna try to do a good paint job on it. Actually trying to decide if I'm gonna use the sensor pod or not.
That will be cool. And you should use the sensor pod.
Sensor pod? Isn't that the torpedo launcher on the top (or do you mean something else)?
I want one now...

Yeah the thing on top is a long range sensor pod. I used to think it was a torpedo launcher as well.
Really??? But on the episode whose name I can't remember they took those out with them so they could fire torpedoes! Oh dear, I can feel one of my cherished beliefs slipping away from me :(
It's a reasonable assumption to make based on ships like the Reliant.
Well, the directions call it a "long range sensor cluster array". It's meant to be a mission specific deal they can slap up there if there doing sciencey stuff. Now that you mention it tough, I think i might recall an episode where torpedoes were fired from it. Have to look that up.

Yeah but how many times have they fired phasers from the deflector dish and the like, lots of snafus like that across all of Trek history :)

What'ya mean torpedos are long range sensors too - they search and destroy lol!
I don't remember them firing torpedoes from a runabout. Of course my brain doesn't always work the best so I might have just forgot. If they ever did it would have been in the Jem'Hadar or The Maquis episodes I would think.
From the Star Trek wiki:
For defense, the runabout was armed with phasers and photon torpedoes. The torpedo launcher assembly was accessible via a hatch on the floor of the forward cabin. (DS9: "Past Prologue") In late 2370, Chief Miles O'Brien of Deep Space 9 began retrofitting the weapon systems of the runabouts USS Mekong and USS Orinoco with extra banks of photon torpedoes in preparation to the Federation's first engagement with the Dominion. (DS9: "The Jem'Hadar") He also made some modifications to the phaser arrays and shield generators of the station's runabouts. (DS9: "Hippocratic Oath")
OK, got all the pieces separated, sanded and a base coat. This is where the fun begins!
Kit has very nice detail and line scribing! Going to paint up great.
Probably went a little dark on the base coat, BUT since I'm doing the Rio Grande which has been in service for like 15 years (in book time) I guess it doesn't have to look pristine.
Did some painting and assembly today on the main fuselage. Coming out pretty good so far, despite my issues with the quality of the paint I just bought.
Looks great so far!
Looks good, must be fun to work on
All done! Had a pretty good time with this, encountered some issues with the old decals and a couple part fit problems, nothing that couldn't be fixed with a mini drill and toothpicks! Looks pretty Starfleet to me.
Looks terrific! Great job on the panel painting.
Looks awesome, great job. You inspire me to finish my half done Tie
I would really mess up trying to do something like this but it is cool to see what you guys do with the model kits.
Looks great!
Hey, thanks. It's such a big model that painting it was a joy. Plus it had been a while since I did a Star Trek model.
AWESOME job...
