The wifi sync is nice for Fran since she syncs to her laptop, it's nice she doesn't have to find her cable, plug it in etc etc, she can just have her phone on the speaker dock in the kitchen that she usually leaves it on and transfer music and such wherever she is working in the house.

As for the iPad, I think the only time I've plugged it in was once to transfer some videos/photos and for this update so if I want to do more file transfers I'll likely do it via wifi.

Having a 3GS a downside  I have noticed is a slight slowdown overall but I suppose that is to be expected.
I agree, things have slowed down considerably on my 3GS as well.  Not happy about that.  That combined with some of my apps not working well or at all makes me ish I could go back to the previous iOS.

Playing with the 'Find my Friends' app this morning, it's sort of Google lattitude done the Apple way.

From what I can see, once enabled the server interrogates the iDevice every time someone pings for a location against the Google approach of continually reporting position for others to use.

Personally, I still see it as a slightly stalkerish application but if anyone wants to give it a try and doen't have anyone to test it with, I'd be willing to play for a while.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Anybody else noticing an increase in battery usage with iOS 5? I have, especially on the iPad 2. Hopefully they will optimise this in 5.01

My battery on my original iPad is nowhere near as efficient as it was when I first got it, but I noticed that before iOS 5 dropped.  I think it's more about 1 1/2 year of near constant use/draining/recharging.  I guess in your case it would have to be either the OS or else you're using it differently since the update.

Maybe but there have been reports of battery efficiency being reduced. One guy said his battery drained in 24 hours with the iPad 2 sat "idle".

I guess if you have all the bells and whistles set to "on" there is more happening than you realise, like iCloud backups etc.

One of the reasons I don't go in for all this "Cloud" back up and WiFi syncing use.  Plug that sucker in more often!  ;)

Dan, yes. Especially on my iPhone 4. But, I think it's also because of all the notifications and things.

LOL! I'm glad that the got the wifi sync now. Sure it was standard on the first Zune, but I'm glad that Apple has finally decided to add the feature. Next up might be a monthly pass and unlimited streaming.

As I might (or might not) have said before, pretty much all of the new wireless stuff is catching up with somebody or other. Most of it is Google I think but there are others out there too.

I was wirelessly syncing PalmOS devices years ago.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Pretty soon you'll be able to do everything wirelessly - except keep the device powered up!  LOL!!!   :roflmao

Ok this one is good!

They have that too. The touch pad can charge wirelessly and there is the charge pad device where you can adapt things to induction charging without wires.

Rico

Yes, I'm aware of those devices and options.  Some are even making their way into cars.  But, I still think battery life is a weak component currently, especially given the additional functions these devices have to perform.  And also considering you can't even get at the battery in Apple hardware.
