Hi everyone...
Ok, got a bit of a problem. Currently, I host 3 podcasts, two of which are on podbean.com. Now, for reasons I won't get into here, I am removing both of them from podbean and want to move them to my DreamHost websites (created via iWeb). Now, normally, I would just drop the "relocate" script into the XML, etc. Issue with Podbean is that I cannot FIND the XML. I have sent Podbean no less than 4 emails and absolutely no reply. Am I S.O.L. on this? Does anyone have any experience with Podbean that goes beyond just uploading to it? Is it really that messed up to where they won't allow the PAYING user to modify their own podcast? Thanks! Al

Rico

Al, can't you just create your own feed and repoint to the new one on dream host?

QuadShot

Rico, create it where? I have the RSS feed from podbean: feed://fastforward.podbean.com/feed/ but where would I create my own feed?

Meds

Al in settings you can put in another Rss feed, you paste it in there and I think it redirects bit like if you have your own URL.
Not sure if that helps. :)

I did some reading

If a person could get into the Admin Page for Podbean, you could do the following to redirect to another feed

under the iTunes settings put <itunes:new-feed-url>the rss to your new blog or feedburner</itunes:new-feed-url> in the box labeled "additional feed entity."

It looks like other people have had the same problem, where they cannot access the podcast xml file due to the way podbean handles it, so makes it hard(impossible) to move for itunes. It might really be a case, where if you could get access to put the redirect into podbean to the new feed. Then post on new site and on podcast that podcast link in iTunes will change. Then delete old iTunes entry, and create new one after a few weeks, and hopefully everyone got the message and updated there itunes subscriptions.

That's the danger though isn't it. Hoping people will update the feed link. I know of one podcast that has three versions on iTunes and two if them are old feeds and it tool me three attempts to fund the newer feed. If it wasn't for the fact I enjoy the podcast and like the person I would have given up.

Rico

What about this idea.  Can you delete your podcast in iTunes and just create it again with the new feed?  Is that easier than changing the old stuff?

jedijeff

The Problem with itunes, is that each entry has it own unique itunesID, so I think that is what iTunes picks up on when someone subscribes. So even deleting and creating a new feed, the people subscribed to the old one, will not see the new one.

Rico

Yep, true.  I still might try something like that if all else fails.  Or just change the feed file in iTunes itself.

I was doing a bit more reading, based off the Apple Site
Quote<itunes:new-feed-url>

This tag allows you to change the URL where the podcast feed is located. It is added at the <channel> level. The feed format is:
<itunes:new-feed-url>http://newlocation.com/example.rss</itunes:new-feed-url>

After adding the tag to your old feed, you should maintain the old feed for 48 hours before retiring it. At that point, iTunes will have updated the directory with the new feed URL. For more information, please see the "Changing Your Feed URL" section above.

So if I read it the way I do. If you could get that line into your Podbean feed in the additional entity feed. After 48 hours, iTunes would update the listing with the new location of the podcast, and you would not need to go through resubmitting the podcast to iTunes, and all subscribers would be pointed to the new location.

For non iTunes subsrcibers, they would have to update their catchers with the new location manually.

Hey guys, update: it worked! I added the redirect code into the additional feed entry box and within about 5 minutes, my promo test podcast episode for FastForward uploaded into iTunes! Yeah! Whew, for once an EASY (sort of) podcast feed move. You guys rock. Now...I need to update iTunes to direct to my new website on the podcast page in iTunes instead of back to podbean. Thanks folks...oh, if you wanted to see it, the new FastForward website is www.fastforwardtar.com but it's really just a W.I.P. at the moment. Thanks for all your help...

jedijeff

Hi Al, That is good news that helped. As for the other updates, maybe after 48 hours iTunes will switch over to your new podcast feed and update the page based of the data in the feed.. The other thing to check, is in the iTunes screen for your podcast, click on report concern, and see if there are any topics that might allow you to request a site URL change
