Ah sorted it. I don't have iTunes on my laptop, iTunes is on the big computer upstairs. I found out that if i unlock the phone (slide the bar and put password in) and then plug it in to my laptop i can see the photos and movies. How weird.

Probably just improved security.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Good point Mike. They must have watched Spooks lol

Hey, is it still true that Siri can't launch apps?  Can you ask Siri to play a certain musical artist??  If not, are there iPhone apps that do that?

MARKO

Siri said "Sorry Marko i am not allowed to do that" When i asked her to launch an APP.....Oh well i will have to do it the old school pain in the neck extremely laborious way and tap on the App i wish to open.... i'm exhausted.   :)

Siri is pretty well integrated with the music player last I checked so yes.  As far as apps, probably not for a while.  iOS 5.1 is said to bring additional functionality to Siri so no doubt we will see continued growth of Siri.  As far as other apps, no, due to the sandbox nature of iOS that is not likely to be allowed.

I'f have to check the developer site to see if it hasn't already happened but I'd be surprised if they didn't open up an API to the 'Siri listener'. I think Apple would allow, at the very least, for a developer to define a voice command to launch their app in the main app settings.

Well, that's all that matters then.  :)

There are certain things Siri can't do for whatever reason. I heard you can't dictate a tweet even though Twitter is very integrated into ios5.

Well, we should all keep in mind that SIRI is still in it's testing stage. They are constantly working on refining the voice recognition software and it's still considered a Beta test of this application of cloud technology. As such, I think it's amazing what they have actually acheived so far with it and what they will continue to improve upon.

Dangelus

Yeah hopefully when they are happy with it they'll roll out Siri to previous iOS devices that are perfectly capable of running it. :)

You think that the are going to do that? I don't think they will. Siri non-beta will probably be on the 5 when it's released with some justification that the older units can't support the specs. This is giving people a taste and when they bring out the new phone, they are going to use it as a selling point and have millions of people spreading word of mouth on how cool the beta was that it's going to be hard to pass up the real deal.

I hope they bring more to the '5' than that!

Is it only me or is Siri still too gimicky to seem really useful?

While I love the concept of a "Computer, lights" type vocal interface, in reality I'm much more comfortable just pressing a switch.

Perhaps I'm just getting old.

I don't know. I think that when it works (see Kintect voice interface) it's pretty cool. There have been several times now where I couldn't find my remote, but a quick "Xbox pause. rewind. play." has kept me from missing something important. It just has to have more to it than just simple replies to voice queries for me. Then again,  I like 3D and one man's enjoyment is another man's fad.

Bryancd

Yeah count me in as very impressed with SIRI and the potential of SIRI.
