Good Evening from Laconia NH!

We finally survived a week without a snow day. We did have a delay on Thursday but everyone else got hit bad. It's tough being a special education teacher and trying to play catch up with all the days we've missed. Last week we had Monday off (the 17th) then we had a snow day, then a delay, one full day, and then our teacher workshop was even cancelled due to the snow. We have a total of 2 snow days to make up so far. Ugh. I can't even see over the snow banks to get out of my driveway so that hasn't been fun. We also had a few days this past week where it was below zero. That was awful. My CR-V was groaning when it started it was so cold. :wallbash:

So last week after joining the forum, I decided to look at the past podcasts I had not downloaded. I downloaded: Unification, Flashback, ST:6, Search for Spock :vulcan , and Spock's Brain. It was great to listen to all of them. I thought it was funny listening because they were all way before the last Star Trek movie. So listening to the news about the new movie was interesting.

Unification is definitely one of my favorite episodes. I love that part at the end where Picard gives Spock the chance to meld to share what Sarek shared with Picard. I always cry when I see that and I did a little on the way home. Fathers and sons may have a tough time but even Father's and daughters have challenges. I know that things haven't been easy with me and my dad lately and his health hasn't been all that great. He's been recovering from cancer. The last time I saw him over the summer, we got into a fight. We're still talking which is good but it's not quite the same. He lives in California and I'm in NH so it hasn't been easy across the miles. But back to Unification, I've read the novelization along with other Spock books.

Love Search for Spock. I've listened to the commentary while I've watched it and I love when Robin Curtis talks about her experiences playing Saavik. There's a look that she gives Spock at the end of the movie and then she looks quickly away. She said that Leonard Nimoy told her to act as if she had just seen someone that she had loved long ago and then just saw him again. It was a really cool scene. There are few books written about her and Spock. One in particular where they're supposed to get married and Spock is in trouble on Romulus and runs into the female Romulan Commander he met in The Enterprise Incident. It was a good book because they are both trying to make it back to Vulcan before they die.

Flashback was a good episode. I thought that Tuvok was a great Vulcan and he had a good relationship with Janeway and even Neelix. I always laugh when the kids change in the memory. One of them looks like a little sumo wrestler. I always found the Tuvix episode an interesting one to watch. I also liked the episode where he ends up having to meld with a serial killer on Voyager and he has to control his own violent urges to kill. The character's name was Suter who was played by Brad Dourif who's been in Child's Play along with Lord of the Rings as Wormtongue.

Spock's Brain is definitely a funny episode to watch. That one is definitely warped. I love when the woman compliments Spocks' Brain (The Teacher). Spock takes it so graciously. She doesn't want to lose Spock. It's so dramatic as Bones puts Spock's Brain back together. The look on his face and the sweat is just too much. Then Spock ends up having to talk him through it in the end.

Star Trek 6 is definitely one of my favorites too. I love the end where they all sign off their names. Of course the line from Peter Pan "Second star to the right and straight on till morning." So many great lines and what a way for them to go out in style. I love the scene where Kirk has just finished kissing Martia and Bones says "What is it with you?" and Kirk says "Still think we're finished?" and Bones says "More than Ever!" Of course no Star Trek movie would have been great without Kirk fighting an alien. I loved it when he kicks the alien in the knee and he turns colors. Martia goes on to tell Kirk that that was not his knee. Definitely a memorable scene. Kim Catrall as Valeris was priceless. She was great and so sneaky. I like the meld before they put the director's cut in. The director's cut has all the conspirators' faces show up during the meld. Definitely very emotional scene between Spock and Valeris. Of course he says after Scotty says "Then we're dead." And Spock says "I've been dead before." Such a haunting line.

I need to head home shortly. Hope that everyone is doing well.

You picked out some good ones. I just found Star Trek V and really enjoyed it. I will have to check out some of the ones you picked, Zarabeth32. Rico, did you ever do one on the DS9 finale?

Thank you for your concern about my Dad. Yeah I hope he pulls through all right. He's been through a lot of health issues over the last few years. He's the one who really got me involved in Sci-Fi in the first place. :klingon

Hi Zarbeth32, I have been behind in my pocast listening for a while be case I have been busy with a lot of things in my life. I relocated last summer to be with my gf who lived in another town in another part of the state. so I myself have been behind in listening. I can always look back a the spread sheet on my iTunes page and download a podcast I am intersted in. I do not have the time anymore to listen weekly so i have to be selective, i have skipped over some while i downloaded others. I hope your dad is better. take care.

Yeah, I hope your dad is better also. I did just listen to a podcast from 2007, which was "Relics". It is one of my favorite TNG episodes. And at the end when he didn't hug Worf, funny! They also wrote a book called "Dyson's Sphere" which I read some time ago but only gave it a 6 out of 10. I don't recall if Scotty was in it but if I remember correctly it did have the Horta.

Downloaded a bunch of older podcasts and I look foward to hearing them all. I downloaded Superman, First Contact, Babylon 5, Generations, Attack of the Clones, Star Trek 6, Unification, The Phantom Menace and Kirk. I'm sure they will all be great.

Listened to the Superman podcast. Very good info throughout the podcast. I did like the 1st 2 alot. Didn't mind #3, didn't care for The Quest For Peace, and really liked Superman Returns.

Hello Everyone!

Thank you all for the warm thoughts and well wishes for my dad. He goes to the doctor today to discuss his treatment options.

Sorry I haven't been on in a while. Pretty busy with school stuff and spending time with friends. Looks like we might have another snow day tomorrow. There goes our professional development day. Oh well, next week is our vacation which will be nice and relaxing.

Listened to Unification and Kirk podcasts. I didn't know that you did midweek podcasts before. And that you had a phone number to call!! I hadn't seen Unification for awhile but I wanted to say at the end of the 1st part when Spock says, "Indeed, and you have found him, Captain Picard." That gave me goose bumbs hearing that again. I think it was worth the wait with that line! You had mentioned in the podcast that you thought that was kinda tricky on their part for waiting so long to have him on. Good job on both of the podcasts.

I talked to my dad and he has to wait a few weeks for treatment to begin but he's feeling pretty good right now. Thank you so much for the support!

I just finished watching ST: The Animated Series. I have them all on DVD. They are quite something else to see. The artists definitely got their likenesses down pretty well. That's great that they all (with the exception of Walter Koenig) were able to lend their voices. I remember reading something a few years back that Leonard Nimoy wouldn't do it unless the other actors were involved.

We finally got some sunny weather today for once which is great! So done with the rain and the snow. We had a mess over the last few days. Not fun!

Hope that everyone is doing well and surviving the winter.
