Just finished listening today. Agree it wasn't the most exciting episode, in fact I didn't remember parts of it until you guys discussed them, so clearly I wasn't paying much attention. Yeah, I am very sure that post task those corral farms were actually removed entirely. If you look where they were setting them up it was all sand bottom. They likely just filmed there as opposed over a real reef to make it safer for all the contestants and film crew. So that whole task was really just a set up.

QuadShot

Good point Bryan. I doubt they'd set up a coral reef that close to shore anyway. I still think you and Jamie should go on the show. :)

Shennanigans!!! In last Sundays episode that cab driver incident was BS!!!!

Bryancd

OH MY GOD! How can you guys say that was fair?! That was total crap!

QuadShot

Total crap perhaps but no more unfair than Andy giving Marcus and Amani the answer to a task at the beginning of the season.

Bryancd

But they are participants in the game. They are playing the game. The cab drivers were not so the analogy isn't apt.

QuadShot

Bryan, I can see your point, really. But honestly, if you were in the race and your cab driver got information from another teams driver that benefitted you, how would you have reacted? Don't get me wrong, I do agree with you that it wasn't fair at all, but how would Phil have penalized that? You can't penalize the teams that benefitted and it wouldn't have been fair to allow Andy and Tommy any concession to "even it up". The best that could be done it to learn and next season make sure the drivers all know. But again...then the producers would be interfering with the natural outcome of the race.  For sure, a most controversial issue to say the least.

Geekyfanboy

I don't feel it was right or wrong.. it's all part of the race. I mean the racers didn't ask for the taxi drivers to call the other taxi drivers to see where they were going. And for all they knew it could have lead them to the wrong place. Also in all Amazing Races teams have said to the taxi driver... "follow that cab" not knowing where they were going but assumed the team in front of them did.  I think it's just all part of the game. Some Racers have picked up locals that have spent the day with them taking them from place to place that they needed to go. There are no rules about getting outside help, other then the crew.

Bryancd

Yeah, no, they can't penalize the other teams for something that seemed to be out of their control, but this and other things that have happened this season just has made Jamie and I feel pretty strongly that this show is VERY controlled and contrived.

QuadShot

Kenny, great point and I wish I'd have thought of it! :)
Bryan, we've felt that this season as well, that perhaps this season has been less then...natural maybe? The finale should prove interesting.

You guys I've worked on several game shows and though you may feel things are control or contrived, they aren't.. it's illegal for the production company to interfere with the natural outcome of the game. If any crew altered the game play to give a team an advantage or disadvantage the production would be shut down in a heartbeat and the company would have to pay huge and I mean huge fine. Now I'm not saying that the show isn't produced, everything is produced to a certain existent. They may have the team re do things (if there is time). Or re enact something but those can not mess with the way the teams finish.
