Yeah I just read Roger Ebert's review of this and it turned me around on seeing it.

I can't say this one has really grabbed my interest. Jamie asked the other night if I was excited to see it but I was kind of meh. I think I'll wait for DVD on this, could be fun.

It seems to be getting much better reviews then I thought it would.

I'm interested in seeing it, but its probably due to Jackman, if he wasn't in this, I would pass it by...

I'm a sucker for a good boxing movie.  Toss in robots and I'm so there.  Movie has a lot of heart too, from what I have heard.

Mark and I saw this today and it was really, really good.  The story, acting, robots fights, everything was just great.  Hugh Jackman was perfect, the kid actor (Dakota Goyo) was excellent, and all around this movie has a lot of heart.  A great mix of story, father/son bonding and robot action.  VERY much worth your money to see it in the theater.  If movies like "Rocky" get you going, make sure not to miss this one!

I'm on Vacation next week so I hope to catch a couple of movies I have missed. Real Steel is one I would like to catch at the theater.

Real Steel was a pretty AWESOME movie. I'm a HUGE Hugh Jackman fan and I loved Evangeline Lilly from Lost so I was looking forward to seeing this movie. I'm not into boxing movies but this was more of a father/son story and it involved boxers who happen to be robots. The SFX were fantastic, the acting was great. Story was simple and cool, my friend Andrew said they could have gone into a little bit more background but I think they gave us enough to enjoy the movie. First half moves along a little slow but once you hit a certain point it's none stop awesome!! It's defiantly one of those feel good movies. And everyone did a great job on taking this main character (Hugh Jackman) who you hate at the beginning of the film and by the end totally fall in love with. The kid actor (who reminded me of Jake Lloyd (Annie from Star Wars Ep1) ) but his acting was better. This is a good family film for all. It was will a must buy on blu-ray when it comes out.

I saw it last weekend. This is what I posted on another forum I frequent...(yeah. I'm a forum junky. Now get off my back :P)

Quote...it's a lot of fun. But it's not perfect!

I've seen an interview with Hugh Jackman who talks about underdog movies such as Chariots Of Fire or Rocky and describing Real Steel as his chance to do the same kind of movie. On that score, it failed. It is by no means as epic as Rocky or Chariots.

One real negative I found was the soundtrack. I'm not an Eminem hater, but his voice really took me out of the movie. The beat fit, just his voice that didn't. And at one point I was trying to decide if I was hearing Fred Durst rather than enjoying the film.

They could have taken this story and tried to do more with it. They could have pushed the father and son relationship more. They could have gone into a disputed custody storyline....or even a darker tale about the corruption taking place behind the Robot Fighting League. They didn't really delve into any of these. And for that, I'm grateful.

If they'd have been successful with any of those things, it could have been as epic as Rocky or Chariots or any other underdog tale movie. But thats a big "IF". As it was, they kept away from the more serious and kept with the fun robot fights. And for me, that worked. I prefer a film that remains light and works than an attempt at an epic that turns out not to work.

Definitely worth a viewing. The robot battles looked awesome on the big screen. But not an epic classic. I'll go for a 7.5 out of 10

I liked this movie.
Since reading 'Andy Buckram's Tin Men' in grade school, I've always wanted my own robot.(sorry Roomba).

Now there's a movie that should be made!

I got to see this as well, LOVED it.  How awesome, combing Rocky and Robots.

I have been and always will be, your friend.

Lots of things to like about this movie;
Not to far into the future to still have retro elements.
Lots of real/virtual mixed robot scenes used.
Strong character dialogs with ad-libbed lines too.

points to ponder;
Was Atom self aware?
Charlie Kenton's (Jackman) redemption as a boxer in the fifth round.
