Bryan...Treks In Sci-Fi. Silly.

Duh! (Slaps hand to forehead).  :D

Yep - that's exactly why.  I wouldn't want to spread around something to spoil it for anyone - especially related to "Star Trek."  Or even have the temptation there for them.  It would be like working as a store Santa and telling every kid that sits on your lap that Santa isn't real.  Whoops - should I spoiler box that?!  ;)

Bryancd

...or working at the Apple store and telling people Steve Jobs hates kittens...

QuadShot

WHAT?!?!?!! NOT THE REAL SANTA? AHRREHGGGG! What a CRAPPY DAY!

QuadShot

WHAT?!?! STEVE JOBS HATES KITTENS???!!! Man, this really IS a crappy day!!

What's the purpose of having a spoiler tag if not to keep someone from seeing it? If there wasn't a spoiler tag, perhaps, but I think that anything that is tagged a spoiler should stay up regardless if it's the next batman, star trek, or muppets movie.

Either have no spoiler ever allowed or let the tag do what it's supposed to do.

I also agree with Bryan's question about why it being a Trek movie would make a difference? I'm not seeing the correlation.

Rico

I've already said most of this, but let me take us even more off track in this thread.

First, spoiler tags typically hide something about a recent TV show or movie that you have seen.  They are generally things that are real facts and comments, but others who have not seen the show or movie might not want to know yet.  The item in question here wasn't that.  It was information for a film from a questionable source about a film months and months out.  It doesn't matter a lot now since Bryan has said there isn't much really under the tag.  But, from the comments in that first post I was led to believe the entire upcoming film plot was laid out.  And that is something I think that requires something more than just a simple spoiler tag.

As far as why it would be different if it was Trek, it's really simple.  This forum and site were created primarily to share our enjoyment for "Star Trek."  I don't think it would be appropriate for a site such as this to have something that could potentially cause damage to that core idea.  It would be like having the script for the next Trek film posted over at www.startrek.com 18 months before the film comes out.  It's just not right.  Anyway, probably should have just let this whole thing alone, but I hope this explains what I mean better for you.

X, you fail to understand one thing: no matter what, in the end, this is RICO'S forum. If he decides to take something down, it's law. Now, spoiler isn't the issue here. The issue is the fact that someone (may have) stolen a script from an upcoming movie and posted details here. I'm not pointing fingers, merely pointing out the FACT that "I", ME...don't feel it is honest or right to steal a script from a movie company and post details of that script anywhere. "I", "ME", only speaking for those personalities that reside within my head, feel that anyone who steals said property, intellectual, physical, or otherwise, should be terminated from said company AND all legal recourse be sought.  Just my feelings...

Too late, Al and I already accomplished that! :)

I hear what you are saying Rico, but I actually agree with Chris. Of course, as Al correctly points out, you are 100% within your right to moderate the forum as you see fit and you have always kept a steady and accommodating hand in that regard much to your credit. If it was my party, I think I would draw the line is someone posted copyrighted, protected material which was illegally acquired and posted here even with a spoiler tag. If there is even the whiff of impropriety or legal consequence, that dog don't hunt. But I don't know that I concur on your definition of what constitutes a spoiler and what is or is not appropriate. However, I don't care about spoilers, so it's not a hot button issue for me personally.

I know it's Rico's forum, but he asked the question and I tried to answer it to the best of my ability and give the reasons for my opinion. Thus my chiming in. I didn't fail to understand, merely answered a question.

I also get what Rico said a few lines above. For me, the spoiler tag has always be a "look at your own risk" sort of thing. Regardless if it's fact or some off the wall speculation, you have to make a choice to look in the tag. Which is much better than getting spoiled by trying to look into a subject and a search result ruins things.

Spoiler tags are the condoms of the internet. If you don't use one, you don't know what you'll catch and you shouldn't remove one unless you are prepared for the consequences.

loutzee

I remove it myself save all the fuss,it was only an outline of what character would be in the new movie and bit of  plot device stuff
which in a few months will be out in public domain( february) if it true all not I don't know.
It is after all only a movie still nice little debate about censorship.
Batman is Bruce Wayne
LOL!! You got me!!

Ktrek

I think as long as the information is in a spoiler it's OK by me. I don't have to click the link (and I have not) but if I do the onus falls on me not on the person posting. Even if the spoiler was Trek related it wouldn't matter to me. If someone wanted the information it would be available somewhere if not here. Don't blame the one who is just sharing or informing members. Like I said the onus falls on me.

wow.. how did I miss this thread all day.. anyways.. it's all a mute point now that it's gone.

Bryancd

The conversation which ensued was much more interesting then the actual spoiler.
