The proposed 'Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome' webseries gets a major upgrade and may even become a full TV series.

Back in July, Syfy announced that it had ordered a "Battlestar Galactica" webseries called "Blood & Chrome" with former "Battlestar Galactica" co-executive producer Michael Taylor on board to write the nine mini episodes.

However, Syfy reportedly liked the script so much that "Blood & Chrome" will now air on the network as a TV movie, according to TV Squad. The movie may begin production in Vancouver early next year. Additionally, it may even serve as a prelude to a new "Battlestar Galactica" TV series.

"When we read Michael's script, it was so clearly a full-blown pilot for a series," said Syfy Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Mark Stern. "The scope is fantastic and bigger, I think, than anticipated, so we said, 'Let's do it as a 2-hour backdoor pilot.' We're trying to get up and running as soon as possible."

"Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome" will follow a young William Adama during the tenth year of the first Cylon War. The initial story finds Adama and a rookie pilot escorting a female character on an important mission that may change the course of the war.

"Your way into the story is a young William Adama who is not the grizzled old veteran we have come to love in 'BSG,'" added Stern. "This is someone who is more like us, in terms of coming into this with certain preconceptions and learning as you go. ... It's very much about relationships along the way. I think ultimately the arc of the pilot and of the series is about getting Adama to be who you came to know in 'BSG.'"

During the TV movie "Battlestar Galactica: Razor," the William Adama of that era was played by Nico Cortez. However, there is no guarantee that Cortez will reprise his role in this project.

"I'm assuming there will be a full casting process for this pilot, but with Nico [Cortez] at the top of the list," offered Stern. "There's also a chance that we'll meet younger versions of other 'Battlestar' characters or people connected to either that world or to 'Caprica,' but the new project would try to do those things with "a light touch."

Although there is currently no date set for "Blood & Chrome" to air, late 2011 and early 2012 are apparently the most likely time frame according to the report.

Looks like this is pretty much a sure thing. :)  http://www.wired.com/underwire/2010/10/battlestar-blood-chrome/

Which is OUTSTANDING NEWS!  It sounds like the show will be what some fans hoped Caprica would be.  Don't get me wrong, I liked a lot of what Caprica was trying to do,  but I'll admit it:  The Cylon War & space dog-fights is what I really want to see.  ;D

I think the plot threads brought up in Caprica will be easier to swallow if they are presented as flashbacks and supporting story development for THIS series.

'Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome' stars revealed -- EXCLUSIVE
by James Hibberd
Categories: Scoop, Television, TV Biz

Who's going to play young William Adama in Syfy's highly anticipated Battlestar Galactica prequel?

Syfy has cast Luke Pasqualino (Skins – UK) as Adama and Ben Cotton (Hellcats, Riese) as the battle-weary officer to whom he will report in Blood & Chrome.

Official character description:

Pasqualino will star as the young, talented fighter pilot William Adama, a recent Academy graduate who finds himself assigned to the newest Battlestar in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Full of ambition and in pursuit of the intense action that the Cylon war promises, Adama quickly finds himself at odds with Coker (Cotton), the battle-weary officer to whom he reports. With 45 days left in his tour of duty, Coker desires an end to battle just as much as Adama craves the start of it. Though they clash at first, the two men forge an unlikely bond when a routine mission turns dangerous and becomes a pivotal one for the desperate fleet.

Much more to come, with photos, refresh for latest ...

Sounds frakking awesome!  Now they just need to have Katee back to play Starbuck's mom and I'll be in heaven!  ;)

She wasn't a nice woman as I recall. Are you sure you'd want Katee to tarnish her image in that role (she was military wasn't she)?

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

"The show, which Stern said wouldn't air before the end of 2011, said the show would employ virtual sets produced by digitally scanning the Battlestar Galactica sets before they were taken down"

I say put the standing sets back up.
Blood & Chrome can only make a ton of money if done right (don't be so cheap).

- Oh yeah: Less talk more fighting, enough said.

I totally agree!  I want to see good old fashioned toasters and lots of fighting.  For crying out loud put the old sets back up. It can only make the show better.

Let's hope they learned their lesson and go for the right demographic with the show.

Looking forward to that! Didn't see much of the Cylons but the CGI does look pretty good. I wonder if they'll keep continuity with new BSG and Caprica and show the original Centurion models too?

Excellent news -  I have been wondering what was going on with this series.
