Just finished uploading show #60.  It's mainly about the last of the OT "Star Wars" film - "Return of the Jedi."  Lots of audio clips in this one - hope you like it.     :starwars:

This was my favorite of all the films -- originals and prequels.  Great podcast.  You had all the clips I would have picked.  I always had a different take on this movie -- "Love conquers all".  It wasn't hate that made Luke powerful but (unlike Anakin and like you said) -- close friends/family.  I almost would like to think that Vader egged Luke on purpose to push him into showing how powerful he was -- not for the emperor but for Luke himself.  He was too wishy/washy in Empire and he needed a kick in the pants.  Who else can do that better then dads ???  :starwars:

Cool show again dude!  Love those movies!

Great podcast as always Rico.

One point I wanted to make that I would like everyones opinion on though.

After seeing the prequels and watching all 6 movies I began to wonder if the title "Return of the Jedi" now has a double meaning.  There is the obvious return in that a Jedi (Luke) has returned to the "limelight" (I guess) in a galaxy that has not had their influence in 20 years.  But now there is (in my mind now) the TRUE Return of the Jedi....Vader becoming Anakin again and returning to what he once was:  One of the most powerful of all Jedi and bringing balance to the Force.

Am I looking to much into this or is this a common thought on the part of SW fans?

Just curious
I think it was Socrates who spoke the immortal words:  I drank WHAT?

As I think I said in the podcast, the title I think really just refers to Luke becoming a full Jedi and therefore bringing the Jedi back into the galaxy.  I don't think Vader/Anakin can ever truly be a Jedi again after going to the darkside.  But Vader does bring balance to the force by destroying the Emperor.  At least that's my take on it.

I love Return of The Jedi...I watch it more often than the other Star Wars movies. I really enjoyed this particular Podcast Rico, and I wanted to make a few comments regarding the movie and some of the points you made about it but first I want to comment on Dart Gaos's post...

Brilliant observation Darth, I love symbolism.  George Lucas probably did not mean to add the double meaning you are referring to and Rico may be right when he said that "Anakin could never truly be a Jedi again".  But, I have to point out that Anakin did come back to the light and Jedi are of the light...So, if you want to get philosophical, the title could signify his "return" from the dark side. And remember he was a Jedi before he turned to the dark side, so it may be referring to his title before his corruption. Hence the title: Return of the Jedi.

Boy, its getting deep in here!?

Glad to hear from several that really enjoy ROTJ.  As I said in the show, for some reason it always seems to get overshadowed.  I think especially after the great movie Empire was.

Hi Rico!
I like your comparison of Luke and Anakin's temptation by Sidious. Anakin was tempted twice...The first time he was tempted, Anakin chose the path of vengeance and chose to kill Dooku. The second time, Sidious uses the argument, on both Luke and Anakin, to try to turn them: "Its the only way you can save your friends." and "Its the only way you can save Padme." While Anakin fell to the temptations of the Dark Side, Luke stood strong in his faith in good over evil.

Anakin's fear of change becomes his tragic flaw, his inability to let things go became his undoing. While Anakin never defeats his fear of loss or change, Luke does. Luke learns to control his fear, something Anakin will never quite master.

I think Return of the Jedi is actually Anakin's temptation, coming full circle. Anakin has an opportunity for a "do over". After reading ROTS and Dark Lord I learned that Anakin has known that the Emperor manipulated him...And as Vader, his goal was to take an apprentice of his own and over-throw the Emperor so that he could rule in place of Sidious.

I think that Vader hoped Luke would help him achieve this goal and become his trusty side-kick. But it backfired, I think Luke's belief that his father could be redeemed and Sidious's failure to turn him to the Dark Side, gave the imprisoned Anakin the strength he needed to over throw Vader...and make the decision to stop Sidious, a decision he knows he should have made 20 years before.

One of my favorite scenes in the movie is the scene where Anakin asks Luke to remove his helmet so that he can look at him with his own eyes. In a way, the mask was the prison Anakin created for himself, when he chose the path of the Dark Side. He was imprisoned and enslaved by it, unable to live without it.  Ultimately Luke gave him the key to unlock the cell and he was redeemed. Awesome.

Amazing a great comments Jen.  I think you really nailed what the movie was all about and about Anakin's downfall and ultimate redemption.
