Definitely go to the District 9 web site and explore.  I have never seen such in-depth creation of a "real" web site for a movie before.  Be sure to find the blog thread from "Christopher" who is one of the aliens.  You can translate his alien writing blog in to English and learn about how MNU is a very bad corporate organization out to exploit these poor aliens.  It is going to be edgy!  Opens August 14.

Of course, if that is not enough for you and you really hate all aliens, you can download this target for practice!

I got back form Los Angeles yesterday.  They have District 9 billboards everyway.  There are signs on buses and in storefronts.  They are really pushing this movie down there.

I went to the movies yesterday, and they had "Humans Only" signs posted all over the windows.  pretty neat marketing campaign.

Geekyfanboy

They have been marketing this since last year comic con.. I remember seeing stuff all over the place last year and again this year.

I liked the premise of this film since I've seen the trailer, I hope they deliver a solid story.
I think scifi is at its best when it has something to say about present society (but isn't preachy), and they certainly  tapped a very rich topic (both present and historically).

D9 is looking pretty good!

District 9 Reviews Through the Roof
By Robert Dougherty
"District 9 reviews are still coming in, but District 9 reviews all look the same already. Every District 9 review thus far hints that District 9 is about to become the newest science fiction classic, and perhaps the summer's best film. Reviews have been building up massive hype since the film was first screened at Comic Con, and in two days, audiences will find out for themselves. District 9 reviews probably won't be perfect by the time the film is released on Friday, but it will probably be close enough.

Every District 9 review has hailed Jackson and Blomkamp as having created a new sci-fi classic. Each review praises the special effects, action, unknown actors, and allegories about apartheid and xenophobia. Most call District 9 a rare original summer film, though a few say it is pretty similar to the late 80's film Alien Nation."

Already a thread going for "District Nine."  So - merging this post with that.

Watched the movie this afternoon, and it was well worth checking out.  Definitely NOT a mindless popcorn flick.  Watching it, I felt kind of like the audience and I were looking into a distorted mirror...

I'm still digesting it.

Incredible special effects.. I found myself forgetting that the aliens were cgi, and not a practical effect.  The action scenes (there were actually quite a few, especially near the end) were VERY well done, but BE WARNED- many scenes are not for the squeamish.

The characters were well fleshed out & the acting was great! I found myself empathizing with some (even a few of the CGI ones), and really hating others.  I haven't had such a visceral reaction to film characters in a while.

Right now, I'm still picking apart some of the thoughts and ideas the film brought up.  I find myself asking if some of the themes and ideas I'm picking up were placed there intentionally by the director, or if I'm reading too much into the film.  In either case, it's nice to leave the theater with my brain engaged once in a while.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a solid 8.

With District 9 and that earlier ''Moon'' film I'll really be looking forward to my netflix Q next summer!  Suppose will also have to add Star Trek in there somewhere too

Omra

A great movie, with impressive depth.  It draws you in and keeps you interested, and thinking.  I have only one complaint, there is a point in the movie in which the main character does something which made no sense at all.  I will explain-
He whacks christopher over the head with the two by four and hops into the command module.  Why?  He can't hope to fly it, he has no idea where to take the Mothership, and with out Chrispohers help how can he hope to be cured?  And why leave Christopher to the mercy of the MNU, and the poor little kid Fatherless?  It just made no sense...
But it is still an impressive peice of work, and once you realize it was made for a mere 30 million it becomes even more impressive.

I was quite impressed with the film as well.  I talked a bit about it today on the podcast.  Very thought provoking and different.  As far as your comment Omra - here's my thought on that....
I don't think he was really thinking clearly when he whacked Christopher.  He was upset and just panicked.  At least that's my take on that scene.
Wow I loved District 9.  Best film of the year in my opinion.  Impressive on so many levels.  One of those rare movie experiences that leave you feeling emotionally exhausted.  performance from the lead actor deserves a nomination.  So does the film, and the sad fact is neither will happen.  But who cares it is an amazing movie, and an instant classic in my opinion.  Never thought I could get so emotionally invested in an alien father and son relationship.

I saw it last night. I enjoyed the film. My only issue is the entire first half of the film (the part in documentary style) made me pretty motion sick. I don't mind blood, gore, vomit etc. But the shaky cam almost made both my wife and I leave.

I saw at least 4 people leave our screening for what I assume is the same reason.

I enjoyed the movie enough that I suffered through.

I haven't been able to watch Cloverfield all the way through either on account of this. I like documentary style, it does really make you feel 'there', however I hope this trend ends soon or I'll be seeing a lot less movies.

Darth Gaos

Very impressive movie from the acting, budget, FX standpoint to be sure.  I have read that the lead actor has never acted before in this type of capacity which is unbelievable.  The story was good as well .....BUT overall...I don't know.  Something about the movie left me wanting a bit.  I cannot put my finger on it exactly, I just have this feeling when I read the reviews at AICN or other places that this movie is being overrated somehow.  Again I enjoyed it, I was totally captivated (My wife thought it was too slow and my brother actually walked out of it about an hour into the flick) but some of the things critics are writing seem to me, to be giving the movie a bit too much credit fo some odd reason.   Did anyone else get this sense or am I just completely out of my mind here?
