I kind of feel like I shouldn't have bothered to preorder the game now since I thought I was going to get in like a week early.  Oh, well.

It's a bit of an odd system, though you're not really losing anything by pre-ordering. It's not as though you pay a premium for it. I have a feeling that by day 3 of head start they'll have most people in. Until recently the original head start was only 5 days, they extended it to 7. I only preordered about a month ago so I'm not sure when I'll get in either.

Yeah but I kind of like boxed copies.  The only reason I preordered (the digital download version) really was to get in to the game early.  Hmm, I wonder if I can cancel my preorder?

I've heard the single player experience is top notch in this game.  I wish I could play it.

If you had pre-ordered a boxed copy you would have received an early access code either way :)

My beloved guild (AIE) is deploying to the Keller's Void server, I'll be Sith initially but I'm sure I'll be rolling some Republic toons as well.

Here's more info on head start:

QuoteHey everyone, good morning and welcome to the first day of Early Game Access for Star Wars: The Old Republic!

We're granting access based solely on when people's pre-orders were redeemed, and we're going to be granting it in 'waves' - large batches of emails and game entitlements that will go out over the course of today (and tomorrow, and the next day, and so on).

I'll be updating this thread (and this post) as we send out more 'waves' of invites.

So far today, we have sent out two 'waves' of invites; we will be sending more later on, but I cannot be specific on timing. (Why? Because as we invite each wave, we monitor to see how servers are performing and so on. If everything is good, we'll send a 'wave' earlier; we in fact sent 'wave 2' ahead of schedule. So cross your fingers.)

Now, to the question you all have: when will you be invited? Well, I cannot be specific to individuals or even to dates, because again, we have to remain flexible. That said, I can talk a little about the pattern of pre-orders.

At the very beginning of pre-orders, which started on July 21st, we had a massive influx of pre-orders. A huge spike. After that, things settled down. As a result, today especially, you're going to see a fairly narrow band of dates from those admitted to Early Game Access. From tomorrow, it'll spread out to a wider date range.

That's about as specific as we're going to get right now. However, as we send more waves I'll update this thread/post with more information. Thanks for your patience - we know it's been a long road, but you'll be playing before too long.

Actually, it makes sense. They want to make the experience run fine for everyone and staggering the entry seems to be what's needed to allow people on without a ton of wait and without destroying the servers.

I think i got my access this morning..unless everyone got the email:

"You redeemed your Pre-Order Code and now are registered for the following items:

    Early Game Access
    Color Stone (Virtual Item)
    Download Game Client

You can now download the game client and gain early access to the game.

Don't play solo! Tell your friends you've pre-ordered Star Wars: The Old Republic on Facebook or Twitter!"

Too bad im working all day.

Also.. any recommendations on a gaming mouse? and are we doing group/guild play here?

Logitech mice are pretty good, I'm using a Microsoft one though atm, but I think they quit selling it a while back.

I've used Logitech mice for a very long time.  Currently have the Performance MX.  Good for big hands.

Agreed. It seems like a great idea from my outsider's perspective.

I've seen so much moaning about access on the launch of other games that a mechanism like this that works to alleviate the problem seems like a sensible precaution.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

It's a no-win scenario, some people say they'd rather sit in queues and deal with server instability just so they can say they 'got into the game early. Those same people would be screaming bloody murder because "I bought this game and I can't even play it"  the moment they hit a queue or an emergency maintenance window.
