This was an old WWII movie - one of my favorites in fact, based on actual events.  The parallel with Star Wars is like freaky.

When directing his special effects guys, didn't Lucas cut together footage from this movie to show how the dogfights should look? Maybe not just this one..... anyonne know what i'm talking about?

Hehe!  Nice job.  You do know the SW special effects crew spliced old war films together to make a demo of what some of the battle sequences would be?  Not sure if they used anything from this movie, but it's a pretty well known fact.
