I think the wife is more paranoid about letting him watch certain things than I am, but the first time through, I kept an eye on our lil guy to make sure he was ok with what was going on and we talked about stuff and made sure he knew it was all pretend.  Sometimes he even asks "how did they do that?" which, as a former CGI guy, I am more than happy to explain!  :)
