Gellar Considering A "Buffy" Movie?

ShowbizSpy reports that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in talks to reprise her role as Buffy Summers in a film sequel to the hit series which wrapped up a successful seven season run back in 2003.

Insider reports say that the idea for the script has the story picking up with an older Buffy, who might even be a mother. While Gellar is currently busy with other projects, she is excited about the idea.

The franchise still has a large fan-base and in-built audience, the main questions are the timing and how many of the cast members like Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon, Anthony Head, Michelle Trachtenberg, David Boreanaz, James Marsters and Eliza Dushku would be available.

Kristy Swanson starred in the initial comedic film incarnation of "Buffy" back in 1992. That film bared little relation to the darkly humored, mythology-heavy and emotional series that followed in 1997.

I don't know. I faded out on Buffy somewhere in season 5 or 6. I'm not sure I could work up the enthusiasm for a film. Of course, put Anthony Head in it as Giles and I may get a little more interested. He's a good actor (not that the rest of the cast aren't).

Rumor control: About that Buffy movie? Joss speaks

Here's the final word on that rumored Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie from the creator himself, Joss Whedon.

"Not gonna happen," Whedon told reporters in Hollywood on Wednesday. "Not gonna happen. Until I gather the press and make a public announcement myself that it's going to happen, never believe anything."

So there you have it!

I think we need some sort of movie in the buffyverse. Some of the topics and issues that the Buffy season 8 comic has addressed would be cool.

Yes - definitely! I'm sure it will happen - someday. When SMG is about 40 and her kid is the new slayer!

I'm not even bothered about a 'Buffy' movie but a 'Buffyverse' movie or new TV show is long overdue. Joss created such a great universe and it has just been dropped completely.

I am on Season four of the show and so far can't get enough of it. I love all of the characters and think that the stories are really well written. Next to J.J. I think Joss is definitely one of the most talented guys working in the sci fi genre.

Not completely. It's just in another medium. Comic Books. A new season of Angel and Buffy are and have been going on.

Right now, the lovely Kelley Armstrong, who is a great writer and has a great message board and series of books, and is a very cool person to know, is writing the latest Arc in the Angel series and it's canon to the series.
