Last nights episode was quite a doozy - some thoughts/questions...
Who or what is Jacob?  Alien?  Angel??
Also, same for his buddy we see at the start.  Who are these guys??
So is Locke really dead??
Is everything going to be reset now after the bomb went off?  Or did that cause everything??
The time travel, paradoxes, etc. are getting confusing.  Is this going to start being an alternate timeline thing like Trek??

Lots to ponder for about 8 months
Well...
From the look of it they date back to the Black Rock time period at least (perhaps the ship at the beginning IS the Black Rock on it's way to the island?. I suspect they are MUCH older and all the Egyptian things are hinting at that. Whatever happens next season it's going to be VERY interesting!
My theory:
Watching the show I KNEW that Locke wasn't Locke and things started flowing.

The guy that Jacob met on the beach is the monster in physical form.

Jacob is the light in physical form.

I don't think that Jacob is actually the good guy. Looking at Jaboc's track record, he's not that nice.

He prevented Kate from suffering the consequences for stealing.
He stopped Siad in street and put his woman in the place of getting killed.
He put James on the path to revenge.

I think that this is a war between good and evil and Jacob just might not be the good guy.
I know that this might seem out of the blue and this has nothing to do with last night, but the things that have come before ...

Lost.

What is the greatest Lost thing in history? Something that we have been trying to find to this day?

Something that was Swallowed by the sea .. almost like how it looked when the island vanished.

What if the island is Atlantis? Given the ruins and other things ...

Rico

This show has certainly gone a long way from the - everything has "a perfectly simple and scientific answer."  Like they said in the early seasons.  I like your ideas Chris.
One of the interesting lines was about the loophole.   Is Locke really this other guy because now I think Locke really is dead
It's one popular theory on thr Lost forums.

I think that would be too easy an explanation.  Where was Atlantis rumored to be located?   I thought it was in the Atlantic.   Will John ShepPERRRRD make an appearance? :D
Well whoever Jacob's "buddy" is seems to be able to take the form or shape of anyone on the island.  It does explain all the appearances of people thought to be dead or away (Walt, Ben's daughter, all the dead people appearing to Hurley, Lupitas, Locke etc.)  Having all powerful beings able to manipulate time and space also explains how they were able to murder Juliet's husband during her recruitment onto the island; that part of the story always bugged me as not having any kind of logical explanation.  I agree with Just X in that it seems to be shaping up to be an eternal conflict between two ancient forces, perhaps not good and evil but similar to what we may know as god and satan or cain and abel with all the people on the island acting as pawns.  I doubt we are going to be able to pinpoint a force for good and a force for evil, I think we are just going to have to root for our hero castaways in the end and not Jacob or his opponent.
:ohbaby

Well it might have been, until it started moving.

We will have to wait until Feb 2010 - there better not be any black monoliths showing up (zarathustra music plays in the background).   It took 4 years but ABC has another hit show.  Hey Rico, lets move Lost to Monday nights :D

Certainly a lot to think about
I was a bit surprised when it turned out to be Locke in the box, but considering that the Locke that we have been following on the island wanted to kill Jacob, that does not seem like the Locke that we all know.
Ben was told by Smokey/Monster/Alex that he must follow what Locke tells him, this must be the same thing as the Undead Locke we have been following on the island. Since Locke was not there when Ben saw Alex, makes sense that he changed form from Locke to Alex to Manipulate Ben into following him. Like mentioned, Smokey, or whatever this other person is, probably cannot Kill Jacob, so he recruited Ben through impersonating Locke. I guess he can manipulate Richard as well to lead him to Jacob, since Locke is perceived as the leader. (Though I would have thought he would have known where to find Jacob to begin with)
I am wondering if next season we will start seeing some of the people Killed off coming back. I am not sure that what Jack and the rest did will reset things totally like they are hoping. Hurley with the Guitar case, and Sun looking at Charlies Drive Shaft ring, leads me to believe that we will be seeing Charlie again.
Certainly a lot to think about, and so long to wait.
I came to similar conclusions as jedijeff. But I have no idea what we are going to see next season, so many possibilities.
