So what were some of you favorite non Star Wars or Star Trek toys as a kid? Here's one of mine:

STARBIRD: the very first application of a motion sensor into an electronic toy. The engine sounds would change pitch as you moved it's nose up or down! And it looked like a badass Y-Wing! This came out in 1978. I was 10. :)

I had several.

Evil Kenevil action set with trailer and motorcycle.

Space 1999 Eagle

Merlin electronic game

Simon

Incredible Edibles creepy crawling kit

Rock em sock em robots

I have been and always will be, your friend.

Favorite non-Star Wars or Trek childhood toys?

I loved my Space:1999 die-cast Eagle, and all of my Japanese Super-Robots, but my favorite was my 6-Million Dollar Man figure.  The one with the hole in the back of his head that let you look through his "bionic eye".  He had a button you could push to ratchet up his bionic arm to lift a little plastic car engine that came with him, plus you could peel back the rubber skin on his arm to reveal the bionic parts.  That thing was cool!

Totally loved my die cast Eagle and Steve Austin as well!

I actually was into train sets and racing car sets quite a bit.  Loved setting them up in different layouts, making sort of dioramas, etc. with them too.  I was heavy into building models then too - any type just about but loved warplanes especially.

I can onlt remember my Space 1999 Eagle Transporter. My brother had the other one (with the 4 nuclear waste containers).

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

I remember that one!  The Eagle toys were really well made.  I liked how you could detach the Waste-carrying module or the Passenger Module (the one I had).  If I remember correctly, the landing pads were also mounted on spring shock absorbers, and the doors on the passenger module could open and close.  Fun times!

My Favorite Non Star Wars/Star Trek toy is not as interesting as some of the others. Growing up, I got a Black Tonka Van for a Birthday or Christmas. Iused it with my Star Wars figures, as I never had any of the vehicles as they were to expensive for my parents to afford at the time. That Van was built solid and I put it through a lot. I am not sure if it is at my parents house anymore, but I played with it a lot growing up. Here are a few pics I found on eBay

Your memory matches mine on all points.

I remember every day as a little kid it was Legos or Hotwheels, or both.

I hope I'm not dating myself, but my favorite toys from my youth were:

G.I. Joe with Kung-Fu Grip
Hot Wheels
Electric train sets
Slot car sets
Big Jim and his rescue rig

Does anyone remember the electric football games where the players vibe across the field or the hockey game where the players slide down slots.

Maybe I'm just old.

lol one of the cool things about this place is the number of "seasoned veterans" here, like myself (no offense intended towards the youngsters ;) ).

I don't think you need to worry about being too old; you are probably around the same age as the majority of the other members here.

And I remember the vibro-football game.  It was cool as hell back then, but it doesn't even come close to comparing to the games available today.

How about some Micronauts!

Blackride

I had the Star Avenger and also the black one. I loved those.

Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

Darth Gaos

Various G.I. Joe action figures and assorted vehicles/aircraft
Original Transformers toys (Megatron and Starscream wer my personal favorites)
Toy guns that my friends and I would play "commando" or "guns" with.
The Transformers poorer cousins - The Gobots
Stretch Armstrong

The late '70s early '80s rocked toy-wise
I think it was Socrates who spoke the immortal words:  I drank WHAT?
