So Amy, Catherine and I went to see Journey to the Center of the Earth tonight.

The guy that played George of the Jungle starred, along with the kid from Bridge to Terabithia.. I can't remember the leading lady's name.  They sure didn't spend a lot on actors... I think we only saw five or six total.

They have come a long way in 3-d technology, and that was very cool.  However, they used it as a gimmick for the first ten minutes of the film, putting in parts just to show it off.  The rest of the movie, you kind of forgot it was in 3-d until something came shooting out at us.  Good stuff.  The plot had many holes in it and if you tried to think of it in realistic terms you scored a 0.  (this is why I like Star Trek and other science fiction that is based in a little bit of reality! :)  ) It kind of made me think that the whole movie was so that a Theme park ride could be made out of it.  The movie kept our interest and kept moving.  Lots of good action, but not much of a plot or reality.

The acting wasn't stellar, but the effects rocked.

Catherine really enjoyed it and she is 12.  Amy and I had to keep thinking... This is a kids movie, this is a kids movie, otherwise it wouldn't have been enjoyable!  :)

Hey, we got to go to the Majestic.. brand new theater!

Sounds like fun!  Did you have to wear special glasses for it?

moyer777

geez, I forgot about the glasses.  Yeah, they were really a nice pair, a lot lke the kind at Disneyland.  They don't look like your typical 3-d glasses.   They were big enough to fit over my exisiting glasses and after the first five minutes or so, I forgot they were on.

Great 3-d stuff.  Wow.

Yeah,

Saw the Journey film with my wife this past weekend as well. It was Pretty light. Though the 3D effects where fun for the first few minutes, you begin to realize that it's more of a gimmick than an enhancement. Good way to break ground on getting the 3D tech out there but not very good content. I understand Pixar may adapt this tech to their future movies. That will be something to see. But for now, I would not recommend. Save your money for the Dark Night film, or Hellboy II, etc.

At least they let us keep the glasses which may mean we'll need them again soon. Stay Tuned.

I wonder if the same techniques will work on DVD too?  I guess 3-D glasses will have to come with the DVD purchase - unless they have a non-3D version done as well for home DVD release.

So, its just a plain projector ?  I kind of thought it would be different for 3D effects.

moyer777

I don't think it is a different projector.  Otherwise all the theaters would have to buy new equipment yet once again.  :)
