Why do you think they come from overseas?

KingIsaacLinksr

*rephrase*

Parents believe it comes from imported food.  Don't ask me why.

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure we don't import tomatoes from over seas. They're all in season right now in the States. Tomatoes are grown in Texas, California and Mexico, to name a few places. ;)

Tomatoes absorb ALOT of water. If I had to guess, it's the water that they used to irrigate the crops that is infected with the bacteria...that leads me to believe they came from south of the border. Mexico has had some issues with this in the past with Strawberries... But the problem could have happened here just as easily. Crap happens... literally.

King, that's kind of a weird statement. US rarely imports tomatoes in the late spring and when we do import at all, it's usually from Mexico or Canada followed by south korea and Japan. Italy too, but that's mainly sauces.

Did your parents think that the spinach problem was also caused from imported foods? Because that was another domestic problem. Actually it was the same problem.

As I said....don't ask.  I'm not sure why they think it.

Yeah - like others said we typical don't import things like this.  For one thing, they are very perishable.  Plus, the US is one of the few places that can actually grow a lot of it's food supply.

On a side note, I saw some amazing fresh foods in Taiwan.  Things grow HUGE there.  And I never had a problem with the food at all.
