A New Venom Movie on the Horizon?

Written by: Michael Hickerson (SoSF Staff Journalist)

Fans who were disappointed by the low-amount of Venom screen-time in last summer's "Spider-Man 3″ will be happy to hear that the famous Spidey-foe could get his own feature film.

IESB reports that talks are underway to get the popular comic book character his own spin-off film and that "the studio" has met with several "A-list writers" about the project.

Which studio is "the studio" is a mystery given the rights to Venom on the big-screen are held either by Marvel or Sony Pictures. Marvel got the rights back from New Line a few years ago, but how much of those rights were given to Sony for the third installment of the Spidey-franchise are unclear. IESB speculates the rights are with Marvel, given that the studio signed a deal with the writer's guild last month.

But whoever has the rights, it looks like Venom is headed back to the big-screen.

No word yet on if Topher Grace will reprise the role of Eddie Brock/Venom in the sequel. No time table for production has been announced nor are there any rumors of who would direct.
