I just finished Bioshock, as a good guy. Though the game's setting was unique, I was left thinking "that was it?" I guess I'm not a FPS (First Person Shooter) player. I wanted more story and I got interesting retro art, ghoulish enemies and some little girls chasing me around the game. Apparently the little girls are the scariest aspect of this game, to guys. They were not scary at all to me. Weird...yes...scary no.

I realize this game is not an RPG, so I may not have like it as much because of that. If you like Halo 2, you'll probably like this gameâ€"I don't think it's as good as Halo I. Unfortunately, I don't want to play this game again as a bad guy. I have tried to do that with KOTOR on various occasions but always go back to the light side (I've played both KOTOR games at least 3 times). I tried...but I can't be evil. I feel too guilty when doing so.

Before I dropped $60 on it, I rented Bioshock to make sure it was a game that lived up to the hype. I'm really glad I did.
I still recommend Bioshock, but I would suggest that you rent it before you decided to buy it.
I give it 1/2 of one  :thumbsup....which means that it's better than Four Light's three negative Flash Gordons.  :D

My son Eric (Octeris here) played it and finished it last week.  He seemed to enjoy it.  He said he would give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.  He liked the setting a lot.

Bioshock... not all that scary (well, at certain parts I jumped and screamed like a girl), but still awesome.

The one thing that was... pretty sweet, was how the game didn't feel like a straight up FPS (Honestly, I used my wrench the whole game because I had MORE FUN with it than the guns) but it made up for this with it's almost RPG feel.

I do have to agree with Jen, the end of the game lacked in the story department, but hey, the story was AMAZING! for an fps.

Another thing was that, although the world of Rapture sounds like a place you'd want to explore for hours on end, the levels are (although very free-roaming for an fps) pretty linear, and not much exploring is to be had, as the levels are also very small.

But, I don't care what anyone says, I think this game is FPS of the year so far (obviously in a few days that's not goin to be so anymore, *hint* halo 3 *hint*) and I suggest at LEAST renting the game, and if you really like enough, enough that you think you'll play through the story again, it is a must buy!

Wouldn't negative Flash Gordons be a positive thing?

Jen

The new Flash Gordon is not so good according to many...I think Four Lights' "negative Flash Gordons" was referring to that awful TV show.  :)

See I wish I hadn't done any research on this.  I stumbled on the fact that the game has a copy protect which only allows you to install it twice on a computer unless you do all of your installation with a proper internet connection.  One rumor attached to this is that the EXE file isn't even included on the install disk, it has to be downloaded.

I do a lot of installing and uninstalling so I'm not sure I want to shell out $60 for a game that if I'm not REAL careful with could end up having to call their security company to get the game installed.

I finished it as well and fell like Jen.  That was it.  Half Life 2 is still the best game ever made.

Do any of you guys play Star Trek Armada 1?

I think if you play mostly RPGs (as I do) it's hard to find the amazing in Bioshock's storyline. However, for a FPS I was definitely satisfied. I did not see a lot of the plot coming and while the 'good' ending is overly cheesy, the ending played as a bastard was worth the replay..for me at least. I also thought the sound direction was genius. Sure, after playing the game for the first 30min I stopped being scared out of my mind but in a darkened room all by myself playing this game, the sound really made it feel creepy.

I agree with iceman, who suggested you try F.E.A.R. and Half Life 2 is also a FPS with an awesome storyline.

Jen

Being afraid wasn't excatly what I was looking for when I rented the game. I really am a story person...I like to explore them. And I had heard a lot of hype about this game's story. It was better than most FTPs, but it wasn't as great as I was told it was. It was good...just not mind blowingly wonderful. But, again...this is only my opinion. I'm not saying it was a horrible game...I'm just saying  that I was expecting more from the story.

I agree the sound was awesome. And as a history buff, I LOVED the art deco style and the awesome sound tracks. I even own a few of the songs that were playing in the background. The animation and the realistic quality of the water was great. Again, those aspect were awesome...and rather unique. But the story was just OK for me.

The music is awesome. I picked up the limited edition of this game so it came with the soundtrack (different from the orchestral soundtrack that was released for download). It had a remix of Beyond the Sea that I've really been enjoying lately.

Jen

Cool! I didn't know they offered that. But then again, I played this game on the 360.

Yeah I played it on the 360 too. Gamestop offered a limited edition of the game with the soundtrack, behind the scenes dvd and a big daddy figurine. It was mostly reserved for pre-orders only I believe.
