Part of the Star Trek movie experience for me has been the enjoyable soundtracks. Soundtracks are very important to capturing the emotion of the scenes within the film and moves the audience along with the drama. Without a soundtrack we would find most films very boring. Star Trek has been blessed to not only have great composers like Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner, but each composer has been able to bring compositions to the table that stand on their own but have what has become recognizable as Star Trek sound. I am hoping that the new film will continue the tradition of using the orchestral stylings that these composers have brought to Star Trek.

I have set up the poll so you can vote for up to three choices. I know many people cannot settle on just one score but for me I think my very favorite has to be First Contact. I just think it has some the most memorable and beautiful compositions that Jerry Goldsmith has ever written. Not just for Star Trek but anything he has done for other films.

Anyway, vote for your favorite and please feel free to comment about what and why if you can.

Jerry Goldsmith is my favotire Star Trek composer. It's a toss up between First Contact and Insurrection as my favotire. Both have some beautiful scores.

I too love the Insurrection score Kenny! I think it probably kept the movie from being a huge failure. The main theme as the film opens in the village and the harp playing draws you in almost immediately. However, the main theme to First Contact is just so moving and really stays with you for days after watching the film. At least for me it does!

The main theme to insurrection is my favorite all time Trek theme.  I can listen to that and be calm rather quickly.

I love Trek music, it really is amazing.

Do you guys collect and listen the soundtracks at all? Or are you familiar with the music only by watching the movies? I have copies of my favorites but not all the soundtracks. It is one of the things on my list of things I would like to add to my collection though.

I have Star Trek First Contact, The Patriot, Survivor, Battlestar Galactica (the old series), Voyager (caretaker) Insurrection.... and a couple more.  I used to have many more on LP, but that has gone way of the dinasour.  :)

I love soundtracks.  They are so amazing.

I have almost all the Star Trek movies and TV series soundtracks.. I don't listen to them as much as I would like.. but it's great to be able to put a CD in and enjoy it whenever I'm in the mood.

The big problem for me is that when I listen to the soundtrack CDs they always make me want to watch the movie. Does that happen to you guys too?
