When watching Transformers yesterday most of the movie trailers were ho-hum, but then there was this video taped going away party, when you first see it.. you're not sure what's really going on. This plays out for about two minutes when suddenly there is this loud roar and everything shakes. Everyone goes up to the roof, of course this is all caught on video. They hear the roar again and see a huge fireball. The next scene are people on the streets panicing and you hear the roar again and fireballs are crashing down on the city.  Then you see the date 1-18-08 and that's it. I have to say that this is the best movie trailer since ID4.  Here is an article I found about it. I didn't hear anything about this until I saw the trailer.

If you have seen Transformers in theaters, you have probably gotten your first glimpse at the teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams' (Mission: Impossible III, "Lost," "Alias") secret project at Paramount Pictures. We talked previously about the teaser here of which a bootleg was briefly posted on YouTube on Wednesday but pulled by the studio not long after.

The code name for the movie is "Cloverfield," but Paramount is now referring to the film as "Untitled J.J. Abrams Project." However, could the title simply be 1-18-08? A new URL is now up, 1-18-08.com, featuring a screenshot and a date stamp. The domain was registered by the studio on March 30th, long before anyone knew about the movie. The teaser ends with "From Producer J.J. Abrams" followed by "In Theaters 1-18-08."

The Bad Robot production is co-produced by Bryan Burk ("Lost"), executive produced by Guy Riedel and Sherryl Clark, written by Drew Goodard and directed by Matt Reeves.

Oh, wow. That looks insane. (I found a pirated trailer, but I won't tell anyone where. I found it in like 5 seconds.)

I cannot wait.

Quote from: WikipediaA sequel to the film was planned, and would have involved Godzilla battling a mutant insect creature. However these plans for a sequel were ultimately scrapped and Roland Emmerich made The Patriot instead. There are rumors that a Godzilla 2 will be released in 2009, which would've been dependent on the success of Spider-Man 3 this summer. These were recently debunked as false by Sony, though it is entirely possible Devlin and Emmerich still plan on re-aquriring the license at some point.

The movie's title creature would make an appearance in Godzilla Final Wars (2004), where it would briefly fight the original Godzilla. In this film, the creature is named "Zilla" to differentiate it from its Japanese counterpart.

There is a rumor that the upcoming film Cloverfield is a sequel, due to it taking place in New York City and being a monster movie.

QuoteIn June 2007, J.J. Abrams was reportedly working on a secret project codenamed Cloverfield. The teaser trailer for the project, revealing no title in its screening, debuted before Transformers in preview screenings, also attached in public release on July 2, 2007 in the United States. The film is reported to be about a monster attack on New York City, as seen from home video cameras. Matt Reeves was reported to be the director, with Drew Goddard as the screenwriter. Paramount Pictures was reported to have set up a teaser Web site for the film.

Assuming this is a Godzilla movie... would it be a sequel to the 1998 movie or a new interpretation?

Showing the perspective of a guy with a video camera was quite annoying.  I hope that scene is short.

Geekyfanboy

Annoying??  I thought it was brilliant.. one of the best trailers in years.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Yes, annoying.  I cannot stand it when that style of filming is used.  I've turned movies off because of that.  ::) However, I'll tollerate it if it's just a scene or two. :)

Do you think it'll be a sequel to 1998's Godzilla or a new interpretation? ???

Geekyfanboy

This may not be in the movie at all.. it may be just for the trailer. Like I said.. when you see this in the theater you'll be on the edge of you seat.

As for this being a sequel  or not.. we are still not sure what this movie is about. There is no title and you don't see anything in the trailer. So until we learn more we won't know what it is.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard

That's possible.  The 1998 Godzilla movie had one preview that does not feature footage of the movie.  Instead, it was a newly filmed scene that could have been in the movie.  Perhaps it was a scene that got deleted?  Another preview is an extended scene of when Godzilla first surfaces at New York City.

Assuming it is a Godzilla movie... :P

Locutus

It was brilliant. Terrifying, amazing, and breathtaking, and I only saw it on pirate video.

Can't wait to see it in the theater.

And I hope to [insert deity here] that is is NOT a Godzilla movie. I would love a Voltron movie, or some other big creature. But please, no Godzilla. Haven't we, as Americans, destroyed enough other cultures? Think of the cultures!

I wasn't terrified, amazed, nor had my breath taken away.  I was bored, then annoyed that the camera was looking everywhere but where the action was.  It was very sloppy.  I just don't like the concept of home videos in movies unless it's characters watching a video or something like that.  I prefer movies where you see the creature.  Watching people scream bores the heck out of me, because it doesn't mean anything if you don't see what they're screaming at.

What other monster could it be that's the size of Godzilla? :blink

What does destroying cultures have to do with Godzilla movies?

Geekyfanboy

CJLP... please don't start on this thread.. we have already done this with the other Godzilla thread.

This is a movie trailer.. not the movie.  I'm sorry that you were not terrified, amazed, nor had your breath taken away. But if you are bored and annoyed after just one mintue and a half I would say stop watching the trailer.  Again this is a trailer to get you exctied for the movie, they don't always show everything in the trailer.. that's the point of a trailer. You ask what other monster could it be other then Godzilla... it could be anything, who's to say it's a Monster at all.

Excuse me?  I commented on Locutus's post and asked two legitimate questions.  If you have a problem with my post, PM me.

I understand what they were trying to do.  I just found the trailer to be crappy.  Hopefully the movie will not be shot like a home video. ::)

We heard roars and saw the head of the Statue of Liberty flung into the streets of New York City.  How can this not be a giant-monster flick?  Locutus brought up Vultron and other monsters.  That's why I asked what other monster it could be.
