Trailers offer glimpses into series four of "Doctor Who"

As anticipation builds for Saturday's return of "Doctor Who" on BB1, the British viewing public has been treated to two new trailers for series four–one in theaters and the other on television.

Both trailers offer a brief overview of the season and concentrate more on returning companion Donna than on the Doctor himself. Some of the scenes that bookend the movie trailer are presumbly from this weekend's season premiere as they focus on Donna's quest to find the Doctor again and take him up on his earlier offer to travel in time and space.

Both trailers offer a glimpse of the re-designed Sontarans, who will return this season. The TV trailer offers a glimpse of two other returning foes the Doctor will face this year–the Ood from series two and the Doctor's greatest enemy, the Daleks.

The television trailer seems to play-up a theme from this year's Christmas special of the Doctor being a kind of intergalactic hero and legend.

Both trailers are available at the official BBC "Doctor Who" web site at www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho.

"Doctor Who" debuts Saturday night on BBC1

Only a few days to go. 6.20pm Brit time. The Daleks returning, now some folk have been moaning about this but me, bring em on. You got to love the Daleks plus a few months ago the rumor mill was on overdrive about Davros appearing. Now for me that would be a massive cherry on a rather evil cake. The great Bernard Cribbins is also in the new series and he was in Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. (1966) so nice touch there Russel T.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER.

I think the above words gives you a hint of what this text may have so please do not read below IF YOU DON'T NOT WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING.

First episode called Partners In Crime.

Oh well here i go. Now you guys who know me, know i love Dr Who and you also know my feelings about Catherine Tate. Well i was right about Tate. She does nothing for me, I'm sorry but that 's the truth. She may grow on me and i hope she does. So onto the story. Well it is a good story to start the series off with. Tennant keeps getting better (and i already think he's amazing as The Doctor) and there is some nice comedy moments (if you want that in Dr Who) like The Doctor and Donna narrowly missing each other every now and again. Sarah Lancashire is pretty good as the villain but she doesn't really come across as a major threat. The trouble with this episode is that you feel slightly let down. Tate is just annoying, I'm sorry but i just can't connect with her. The Doctor wants a mate (quote last line) and to be fair, there is no way he'd want to have a a fling with Donna. At least (Kenny be pre-prepared) Rose had a bit of fun about her, Martha was just fantastic but Donna no, no, no. The BBC even had her saying (in mime) Oh My God (a catchphrase she uses in her comedy show) why, why why. So what do we have. Basically  it's a race of humans using a slimming pill designed to make you lose wight at a certain time (1.10am) but where does the fat go. Ah well it comes out as little fellas escaping to get to their mother ship. You do not find out anything about them so maybe we'll find out later in the series. Anyway the story was OK. It's good to have Dr Who back, Tennant as i said was brilliant and for me the brilliant Bernard Cribbins was just excellent. The last scene well, even I was surprised and dare i say even excited.
Here's to episode 2.

I gotta disagree with you about Donna. I think she is just what the Doctor needs right now. I didn't like the little fat creatures at all. But the reveal at the end had me quite stunned!  :spidey

OMG!! The ending was not anything that I expected! I can't wait to see the rest of the season!

OMG  :jawdrop is right... just finished the first episode. I enjoyed Donna in the Runaway Bride but wasn't sure how I would feel with her as the new companion.. but I have to say I really enjoyed her. She seemed like a different character. I agree with Spidey.. I think she is exactly what the Doctor needs right now.. a mate. And of course you had the surprise ending.. My jaw dropped  :jawdrop and I yelled out when it happened. They must have kept that a super secret as I didn't read anything about it in any of the entertainment websites.. great job.

The ending was a surprise i have to admit and i couldn't believe that i actually felt happy about it. (considering my views). I'm not going to bang on about Donna but what i will say is she was a hell of a lot better than she was in the Runaway Bride. I just hope she mellows a bit, I'm glad we have the mate relationship sorted out i really couldn't be doing with another romance series. The fat babies was just awful but thankfully next week and subsequent episodes will be a bit more darker. As i said to Kenny the other day Catherine Tate is big in England as a comedienne, and unfortunately i can't stand her comedy show. The BBC have a habit of promoting it's own shows through other shows. Hence when she mouthed 'Oh My God' i cringed, its one of her catchphrases, next it will be am i bovereed (another catchphrase) But i will say this she has improved from the Runaway Bride and she has done some very good acting in other drama's plus it's good to have Who back so I'm still going to give  her a chance. Here's to the next twelve episodes. Ah one personal dilemma i have is the final episode will be on my wedding day. Do you think i could get away with sneaking off for 45 mins ha ha.

Episode 2 The fires of Pompeii.
A spoiler free review here. I LOVED THIS EPISODE. The writing was classic Who, the acting from both Tennant and Tate was brilliant. Donna's character did very well in the role as the confused companion unable to accept death that could be stopped. Phil Davis as usual acted his backside off and the effects were top notch. Anyone who watched the BBC series Rome will recognize the sets from that series. Actually filmed in Italy this is one of the few times the new series has ventured out of England let alone Cardiff. For me this episode has re-lightened my fire for the new series. Here's to episode 3.

X

I would have to agree that I loved this as well. I thought the sets seemed familiar, we had Rome in the States as well on HBO. I just finished the commentary as well and it was good too.

I'm finding myself enjoying the addition of Donna more and more. I'm waiting on pins and needles to see the return of the Ood next week.

Geekyfanboy

OMG... just finished the second episode and all I have to say is FANTASTIC. This is one of my top five favorites. All those Donna na-sayers have to watch this episode. It had me in tears. I LOVE THIS SERIES.

Have to agree with Kenny. I'm still a bit weary of Donna (actually Catherine Tate) but my god she pulled out all the stops here. A brilliant performance form her, really enjoyed the writing and i was so happy that she really questioned the Doctors actions. Brilliant episode, Russel T take note on this is how Dr Who should be.
