I wrote my web host about the recent slowdowns.  Here is the response from them.  The MySQL servers are what the forum runs on, so the troubles are on their end and they are working on it.  Just wanted to keep you all informed.  It should get better soon.

Hello Rick,

Thank you for contacting Support.

We're still in the midst of upgrading the POW CGI pools. Now that we've upgraded CGI, we're seeing the next bottleneck in site performance: the MySQL servers. The NetOps team is aware of the problem and is formulating a plan to deal with it. It's going to require a careful implementation by NetOps, which is why they're evaluating their options carefully. When they identify the best solution, they'll implement it, and you should see a noticeable improvement.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. But, trust me the resolution that would be implemented will be the permanent solution for Web site slowness issues that our customers are experiencing.

If you have any further questions, you can e-mail us seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

I was wondering what was going on. It has been quite frustrating at times. Glad to hear that it will be resolved. If not you might think about another server. Many of these companies make promises and never follow through with them.

I know the two sites I host on Powweb have had their problems with loading speed or loading at all. The past week, week and half they have been much better, but for about 2 months they were pretty well unreachable. Every time I contacted Powweb, I would get a note back saying that the sight was back up, even though I asked for the reason of on going problems. Thats great you got a response back, and now I know they are working toward resolving these issues. It has been very frustrating trying to get things going, when my sites were so unreliable.

I've used Powweb for many years and they have been great overall.  I'm sure they will clear this trouble up.  There is a huge amount of competition between hosting companies these days so they have no choice but to be good.  No worries.  I will keep after them.
