If there is one thing stopping people from buying smartphones, its the very expensive plans attached to them. I think if I tried to buy an iPhone or Android smartphone now, I wouldn't. The way plans are priced is pretty dang high and I'm fortunate to be grandfathered into a cheaper plan. I know that isn't the only reason people don't buy them but everyone I talk with always gives me that reason for not having one.

Well, that's a function of economic demographics. Smart phone data planes aren't priced for college kids, niether are really nice cars, it's just the way of it. Not everything will be economicaly asscessible to everyone, gives you something to work towards. There were plenty of things I couldn't afford in my early 20's that I can now, not all of them I still want, curiously enough.

I also don't see much value in a smaller screen iPhone but hey, that's for other people to choose and pick. If Apple wishes to produce a cheaper, smaller, more economical phone then all the more power to them. I didn't think they would do an iPad Mini and I was wrong. Although considering how small the phone already is, it doesn't make much sense to me to make it even smaller.

It is, I was simply making it applicable to your experience. I know plenty of folks my age who can't afford or shouldn't pretend they can afford a data plan. A lot do regardless and complain about health care costs, but that's a different conversation. Bottom line in my mind, things cost what they do until they don't and the market will determine that. And that's the way it should be. Want a smartphone and data plan? Work for it.

I've seen the rumours too but I've no idea if they're true or not although they do seem to be firming up a bit (I'm told). From my perspective, a bigger screen would be a horrendous mistake but I know iPhone users who say 6" screen or nothing!

Already having a supported lower resolution display I can see a small device using some sort of retina display.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.
