Thanks guys - I'm glad this movie hasn't been forgotten.
I'm going to read Heinlein's Novel next.

I've been watching the CG animated series 'Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles'
The Roughnecks use drop capsules and power armor suits.
This 40 episode series is one big arch and seems like it would make a good podcast.
They bring back all the characters seen in the movie including the skinnies from the novel.

Looking forward to Starship Troopers Invasion out next month too!

Heinlein's novel is certainly NOT tongue in cheek at all. He was very pro-military and the book reads that way. It's one of my favorites.

No doubt the movie must be taken with a grain of salt.
I've worked on a base for years and have the greatest respect for the men and women in our military! :)

But I do have a funny story you might like.

I worked at an Air Force Base and one morning walking into the squadron building on my way to the classrooms (TRSS) I see one of our student pilots carrying a TOS Trek lunch box!
So I had to mention it and he kind of grimaces till I tell him I'm a big fan too.

Most of these guys are all business but there are a few Jack O'Neills, and that made my day.  :vulcan

Like alot of these podcasts do it makes me want to go watch the movie or show being covered and this was no exception. I also enjoyed the behind the scenes clips you used and I though that song at the end was a little weird. "23rd Century Man" I think it was called. Good job on the podcast.
Punch it!

Thanks WillEagle, About Zoe Poledouris song "I have not been to paradise", Reading the comments on Amazon.com, I found It wasn't included on the soundtrack CD but it is on father Basil's commentary track so I tacked it on the end - plus I like her voice.

The commentaries came in handy because a lot of the audio clips are just shooting and yelling.
Main cast was Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer and Neil Patrick Harris,
Director: Paul Verhoeven,
Producer: Jon Davison,
Screen writer: Ed Neumeirer
and
Music Director: Basil Poledouris

missing was Denise Richards.
I would have liked to have heard from Jake Bussey and Clancy Brown too

Thanks for listening  :)

Dave, totally enjoyed your ST podcast, that is in fact one of my sci-fi movies of all times!  After listening to your podcast I couldn't rest until I pulled out the DVD and watched it this morning.  The special effects, to me, are as good as anything I see anywhere.  The troop carriers being destroyed in space are out of this world (no pun intended).

Rico's Roughnecks Hyooah!!

Thanks Vartok, I took a two hour movie and whittled it down to an hour, hope I did it justice. :)
Looking forward to your next music review.

I watched this last night.  hadn't seen it for quite awhile. I see what you meant about if they edited a few minutes out they could have had a PG-13 rating. Shower scene, troops getting torn apart and all the ripped up bodies laying around. Yuck! Good movie though and like Vartok said very good special effects done. Some by ILM.
Punch it!

I've only ssen the film once but have long been a fan of the book which is...different.

The film was fun in its own way too, though I doubt I'll get to watch it again any time soon unless I can to persuade my wife to go out for an evening!

Thanks for reminding me of it, I saw it on the big screen with my brother, I seem to remember.

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

Hi Davekill, I just  listen to the podcast this weekend.  Great podcast, it was bugtastic!  lol.  I still member seeing Starship Troopers when it first came out in 97.  I have seen the two sequels as well.  I do think I enjoyed the first one the best.  one of the seans that still strike me the most it when Rico joins the infantry and the desk Sgt shake his hand with the prostick limb.  I sure he lost it battleing the bugs.  the thing about the flogging re mined me of the Mike Fay ca inning form the same time, the American kid who did so vandalism in Singapore and got caught.  remember that.  I never knew that it was a parody of Nazi Germany.  I like where you played clips of Patterns of force in the podcast.  I always had the inpresson that the society they lived was pattern after the roman empire.
I am going with the best information that I have.

Awesome, thanks for listening guys!

Good point about the desk Sgt.
A lot of the adults were maimed or scarred.

I like 'Hero of the Federation'  too, it was great to see Brenda Strong (Capt. Deladier) back as Sgt. Dede Rake. She's gorgeous, 6' tall and one tough chick!

'Marauder' was ok, though the plot sort of wandered. It was good to see Casper Van Dien back too.

Also, Hank Schader from Breaking Bad is the commander of the training camp! I just noticed this on my recent viewing of it.

Yes! First thing I thought of watching Season 1 of Breaking Bad was him in Starship Troopers! "Administrative punishment, 20 lashes!"
