This is also a favorite of mine and not too different in concept than SG-1's run ins with ancient Egyptian Gods.

I would have liked to see more dramatic effects during the final battle in the remastered episode.
Maybe Apollo's 'lightning bolts' splashing against the ships shields as he proved to be no match for the full power of a starship :)

x2, the music is great and this is one of those that was on reruns all the time in the early to mid '70's in my local New York City market.

Yes. For me, this, "A Piece Of The Action", "City On The Edge Of Forever" and "Miri" seemed to be in heavy rotation in Los Angeles in the early 70's.

Interesting you guys feel the same way about how much this episode seemed to pop up in reruns.  I mention that specifically on the podcast how this episode seems to be one I saw a lot of growing up on the reruns.

Do you guys remember the experience of watching these episodes as crappy, scratched film copies? Sometimes, the projector would ramp up on-air and the pitch of the music would rise until the motor stabilized right after commercials.

Oh, yeah.  But the worst part were the cuts made to save time for more commercials.  I used to see at least 2-3 different edited versions of the TOS episodes because each time they ran it, a slightly different edit would be shown.  It was awful!

But now, we have Netflix and then enhanced versions (with no commercial interruptions for local car dealerships or Rice-A-Roni).

I can honestly say until I actually bought all TOS on DVD, as I never bought the series on VHS, I had never seen a complete episode it seemed!

I saw part of the second season and the third season in prime time, but never saw it in color until years later when I was an adult. I saw the opening credits in color at my grandmother's house once on the evening news. They did a story on the first Trek convention (an extremely radical concept at the time).

hi Rico I listen to the podcast last night at work.  great podcast as always.  I remember watching that episode back when I first watch TOS.  I have not seen it in a long while.  the part of the epsiope that stands out the most is toward the end when the temple is destroyed my phaser fire from the ship.  I did know the Enterprise could do that.  Lil.
