What worries me about the Smart Cover is the metal side piece.  Clipping and unclipping it can scratch the shell of the iPad.

RickPeete

I haven't noticed the Smart Cover leaving any marks on the recesses that it magnetizes to...

I use the Zaggmate Keyboard case that Logitech is selling.  It is pricey at $99 but that is pretty much what cases with embedded BlueTooth keyboards are selling for.  You can always get a standard BT keyboard for $60 and save yourself some $$.  But if you think about it, most iPad cases run arond $3-40 so if you throw in a $50-60 BT keyboard, the $99 price does not seem more costly than other solutions out there.

I use the keyboard a lot for blogging, word processing, emails, and for text intensive apps like Evernote, MaxJournal, my remote desktop app (PocketCloud Pro), and even FaceBook.

Like Rick, I also have a secondary case when I don't need the keyboard.  It is a case for the back of the iPad which allows you to still use the Smart Cover.  This gives me the protection for the back of the device against scratches as well as more safety when it is raining.

I'm jealous of all you iPad 2 people, especially because the new magnetic screen cover looks so cool. I have the standard Apple case for my 1st gen iPad, and it's done a good job protecting my device for the time I've had it so far (gosh a year and a half almost? wow time flies).  I've not used any kind of screen protector and have had no problems with scratches.  I clean the screen every night with anti static, non-abrasive screen cleaning wipes to remove my greazy fingerprints.

One thing I heard about the original Apple case is that it's a dust magnet. Is that the case?

Jobydrone

Yeah, I generally wipe down the outside of the case the same time I do the screen.  The new magnetic covers seem much much nicer though.

Well, I still need to decide on a case but one thing is still bugging me about my iPad 2 (keep in mind I'm enjoying it a lot too).  Shutting apps down is kind of a pain.  I know we have discussed this and I know people say they don't impact the OS much, but as a long time PC guy, it bugs me.  Especially since it seems most of these apps don't even have a close or exit option built into them.  Am I missing something?  I know I can power down and also use the home button double tap and then clear them out one by one, but neither option is something I really like.  I'd love an app that closes all other apps!  Is there one?  If not, there should be!

Hey Rico, on the case... Best Buy now sells a snap on clear cover for the back, that is compatable with the smart cover. Joyce bought one for hers and it works well...

It's still pretty early in the life cycle of iOS.  I agree this is a very clunky way to handle shutting down apps.  Most iPhone/iPod users don't even know how to do it or that the option is available.  I would imagine that at some point in the next few iterations of iOS this will be addressed.

There are apps that can clear them from memory, but tbh, not entirely sure they work all that well and I wouldn't really trust them anyway...

And no, there is no magic shut-off-app-button other than the double click the home button.  It doesn't bother me all that much, I just purge the apps from memory once in a while, usually in a 24-hour period, just to keep the OS running ok.  (Though its hardly required).  For me I have not noticed an appreciable drain on the battery regardless of how many apps are frozen in the background or not.

yeah, you just eventually get used to doing things that way

Well we haven't had our iPad for long and the 3G has already come in handy. Fran's plant is moving and they've shut down the internet connection at the old building. She is still there packing things up but still needs access to her work email and the ability to edit documents, Bell 3G to the rescue!

We're on the smallest 15.00/month plan so it's not an incredible strain.
