AA/DST 1701-A Replacement Stand

One of my favorite collectibles is the 1701 refit that Art Asylum/Diamond Select put out a few years back. Unfortunately, my stand broke a while back, a not uncommon occurrence with this product, but I came up with a solution.

I headed down to Michael's (a craft supply store) and spent about 4-5 dollars on the makings of a stand.

I bought this bag of beads that were the same size (3/8") as the stand tip that plugs into the ship.

I bought two pieces of dowel. One was the same size (roughly) as the hole in the bead. One was larger. I eyeballed all of this. I had to sand down the skinnier dowel a little bit to fit in the bead.

Then I drilled a similarly sized hole in the larger dowel. I plugged the skinner dowel in there and let a half-inch hang out to go in the bead.

For $2 or $3, I picked up this base which is about 6" across. I drilled a hole in the center (not all the way through) with the same width as the larger dowel.

The final product (without painting):

It's very stable, way more than the original stand.

I hope this might be useful to someone else out there in the same situation I was in.

Nice Dan, but you need to get the second generation refit of TMP Ncc-1701. The detail and paint job is way better!

Yeah, I know, but shelf space is limited. As it is, I need to decide between the Ent-B and the Excelsior from the upcoming releases.

I placed my order today for the Ent-D which looks like it may be the best ship released by AA/DST.

I also have the D on order. I hadn't heard about an Excelsior or Ent-B, that would be great!

Thanks for posting the Picks Dan, I am going to give it a try, since the Stands for my NX-01's are not that great, and I can never get it postioned the way I like. Your stand looks great.

The ENT-D is supposedly "on the water" to retailers, so they should be shipping soon.

Those are pics of a production sample that was auctioned off recently as part of a fund-raiser.

My only problem is that I would love to see just one series of ships made to scale. How can I ... I mean how can my daughter have realistic space battles with a bird of prey and the Defiant the size of the D?

The pictures have been restored.

3 years later, the stand is still working great. Eventually, I painted it a dark grey.

3 years later, and the Excelsior (Ent-B) and the Klingon BOP are still just promises from Diamond.

Hopefully we will see some Ships at some point, They Said the BOP in the Fall and Ent B in January, but guess will see if that happens or not.
