WorldCon 2011, RENOvation, is coming!! That's the World Science Fiction Convention!  In Reno, NV this year, August 17-21, 2011!  http://renovationsf.org/

WorldCon is often smaller than a lot of cons (3000-6000 attendees), mostly because it changes location ever year.  My last WorldCon was when it and I were both in Boston (Noreascon 4, 2004).  The Hugo Awards are voted on by WorldCon members, and presented during the con.  In my opinion (can't stress that enough in this case), WorldCon tends to be much more scifi literature focused than others.  I mean, you'll get panels on tv shows and movies, and previews and stuff, but the guests of honor are usually authors and the dealers rooms are full of rare books.  There's costuming, but nothing like Dragon*Con (is anything like D*C in that regard?), and a fantastic Masquerade.

So, who's coming?  Anybody?  My brother lives and works out in Reno, and I might be able to convince him to offer up some floor space.  ;)

Oh, and did I mention that I've been approved for Press Credentials?  Yeah.  Awesome.   :D

Looking ahead, WorldCon 2012 is confirmed for Chicago (http://www.chicon.org/).  There's a bid in for WorldCon 2013 to be in San Antonio, TX (http://www.texas2013.org/) and for 2014 to be in London (http://www.londonin2014.org/).  The 2012 and 2013 cons may both be over Labor Day weekend and go up against Dragon*Con, but it looks like 2014 will be mid-August again.
