A few weeks ago, I lent my voice to a project by Necropolis Studios (an audio drama podcast that only produces horror stories). I play "Lady Number 3" in the upcoming Age Of The Zombies episode. I'm not a huge fan of horror stories, but he really needed actresses to help him...so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm playing someone who is being chased down by zombies and gets shot by the military because they think she may be infected... umm...yeah...hard core stuff, that. ;)

Anyway that was my "in" with this drama troop (for lack of better term). A week or so later I received an invitation to write a script for them that would be a blend of sci-fi and horror. They are working on a project called "Omega Road Chronicles: A Sci-Fi Horror Anthology". The scripts submitted, if approved, would make up a single episode in the Anthology. Again...I'm not a horror fan, but sci-fi? I'm all about that. I teamed up with Meds (who's a horror guru) to write a script for them. They gave us a title and a premise that we basically ignored (he he he). The concept we came up with is based on a novel that Chris (JustX) and I began and then put on the back burner. What we had come up with was an idea and a "world" if you will...we didn't have any characters yet. So, it made a great basis for the script, and with Chris's approval, Meds and I made used it.

Here's what Necropolis Studios wanted us to do:

Hi Jen and Simon!

Below is the title, brief premise as a guide, and you come up with the rest! NSP makes it into an audio drama and you receive the writing credit! The story must contain both Sci-Fi and Horror!

Title: The Two White Doves

Premise: A controversial detective becomes the latest victim of a serial murderer who likes to kill in front of an audience (internet, stage, or public square?). A student accidentally steps into the middle of the police investigation of the killing. After discovering an old painting, he discovers the maniac's true identity and the hunted becomes the hunter.

Deadline for Script: Oct 3 (need longer let us know)

If you have any questions... please feel free to contact us!

Respectfully,
NSP

We took their recommendation and twisted it. Our main characters are what is referred to as "Sheep", people assigned occupations at birth. A genetic test is given to estimate an infant's potential for learning and they are fitted with an implant chip at a certain age that holds basic educational information. It contains the building blocks for the development of traits and characteristics required for specific jobs.

Nola Two Zero Two, AKA 'Nola' and her husband are rebels, a part of a larger organization called the Shepherds. They were freed from their implants and now work to free other Sheep.

One of their twin girls was taken from them to be given to another couple, as is law. "No more than one child may be 'kept' by the Sheep". Both girls died when the Constabulary came to get take one away. The bond the twins shared caused the death of both, when the child being taken was killed. This is important to our plot. :)

Our main character "Nola Two Zero Two" is a painter, programed to create works of art for the politicians of the Establishment (AKA the High Order).

Her husband, "Joran Five Nine Six" refers to himself as a 'student of liberty', his old programing made him a puppet—a bard who entertains the aristocracy on autopilot. The couple's old pre-programmed occupations serve as their cover in our story.

The episode takes place during a bacchanal on a luxury airship bound for a pleasure island where the rich and privileged will celebrate a debase holiday that only the aristocracy take part in.

I can't say more than that without ruining the story. But there will be murders galore on this ship and a sarcastic android detective investigating it all. :)

We just got word yesterday that our script was approved. Here's the email we just received from the producer:

Yeah you guys are right.... it was so bad I burned it! JUST KIDDING!!!

IT WAS FREAK'N AWESOME! Really it was! :-)

If no one tops it... when all is said and done..... you guys get first dibs
on the having the first episode! Loved it!

This has inspired Meds and I to write other scripts. I'll let him share that with you when the time is right.

Anyway, thanks to Chris for letting me run with our idea. Look for the episodes to come out around December. You can visit Necropolis's web site and listen to their other projects, namely "Age Of The Zombies" and "Call Me Jack" (about Jack The Ripper) at this address. http://necropolisstudioprod.com

Thanks all. It was hard work but we knocked out a pretty darn good script. Thanks to Chris for allowing us to run off with his idea. We've got two more scripts in prep at the moment and I'm about to email a couple of other companies who specialise in audio drama. Will let you all know whats coming soon once we get into the flow. From a personal point i'd like to thank Jen for asking me to join her, look out for a G&M logo soon lol. Thanks as well to those who have supported us, you know who you are. :-D

I think this is great. Good job guys.

Isnt it interesting that after decades of TV and Movie dominance, one of the great technological achievments of the 20th century(the internet) is helping bring back the audio drama. As an old time radio fan, this is all good stuff.

Update on Jen & Meds's script.
Well all is going well and it looks like no one topped our work as our script is being produced first. Casting calls went out earlier this week to all the actors In the Necropolis group. Myself and Jen are members of the acting group as well so that's how we found out lol.
I'm not too sure when the episode will be broadcast but auditions have to be in by November the 5th, so i should think it would be a month or two after that as these dramas are very hard to put together.
We'll keep you posted with any more news. We do have two drama series in the works, one has at least 5 episodes written and adapted and the other has the intro episode completed so we're looking forward to getting those up and running.
Again more details to come once we're 100% happy with the final work.
:)
