Well, last night my Mom and I heard mewing and sure enough, we found a calico kitty outside our garage.  We took it in, gave it a bit of food and tried to decide what to do.  One of the hardest decisions to make, but we were already stretched thin with feeding our current cat and dog.  Adding a third pet would require that I (or my brother(s)) pay for it.

I felt slightly guilty, but decided to leave it near my car in hopes that it would find its mother.  If it had one...we weren't sure as it was surprisingly tame for such a wild cat.  My Dad had been called and he wondered if it had been dumped near (or at) our place.  The likeliness of this is low, as we live on a farm, but who knows?  It could have been as our traffic nearby has increased.

So what would you do?  I possibly could have taken care of it, but as it was, I wanted a puppy as my first pet.  I am also dealing with my own problems, and didn't want a pet adding to them.  Was it wrong to be selfish in this case?  I know I can't save all the pets in the world, but tonight really tested my convictions.  What makes it worse is how cute the little bugger is.  But everyone knows how it goes, you have to pay for shots, food, water, and more.  And to be honest, I'd rather do this for a pet I know I'll want.

Something to chew on for sure.

P.S. Our current cat was "saved" from a derelict in our farm area.

Well, looks like the choice has been made again.  We found the kitten without its mother.  So...we've become the helpers of the kitty.

(He couldn't quit struggling long enough to get a pic taken)

No, no name as of yet.

Awwww...I'm sure you will give him a good home

KatzeKitty

Darling!  She's small.  She won't eat much ;o)   (If it really is a he, he might be worth something... tortoise-shell males are very, very rare)

Ever since we lost Jake, anytime I see someone trying to give away a cat(s), I so want to take it/them.  But, we can't until we're done (or mostly done) with the remodel (not fair to bring a soul into a home of chaos and expect them to learn the "rules"... likely harder on us than on it/them).

I'd take her off your hands if I could; I know ChadH wouldn't mind.

Nice one, good for you!
I was meaning to ask, is your computer in a closet?

When mine were little they would sleep on top of my head because it warm.  Fortunately, they broke that habit :D

Same here. Very happy that ended. She'd groom my hair at the same time.

I'm glad you chose to keep him around. He's a cute little fella. It looks like you're strangling him in the first photo. :) No name yet?
Anyone have a suggestion?

KatzeKitty

McNugget.  Snack.  Orph (as in orphan).  Schroedinger.  This one looks like it could be a Rusty (Rusty Venture?).  I always enjoyed coming up with names for cats (I grew up on a farm where new cats came along regularly, but I never duplicated names).  Our "best" (longest lived "house-polite") cats were named Cricket and Velcro.  Haven't had a Spot though.

Its a She we believe.  Since Calicos usually are.  But I'll have to check that out.  I already got kitten food from Science Diet (geez that stuff is expensive) so we're feeding it Milk and solids with water for a while.  It sure is a hungry thing though.

Yeah, well, the darn thing wouldn't hold still so I had to hold its neck to get a shot of its face.  Its calmed down and seems attached to me.  Really....attached. No name yet, we'll figure one out yet.  Thanks for the suggestions though.  :)

No, its in the outer office of our place.  In other words, I mean the garage.  We built an office out here and it housed a computer that was used for taxes, I've taken it over since then.  Its pretty warm thanks to the refrigerator/freezer in here.

It seems really intent on being on my shoulder.  I thought this was a cat, not a parrot.

That was really nice of you to take the kitten in, hopefully she will be a great pet for you.

Cute little kitten. I've had to bottle feed a lot of stray kittens in my life living with a veterinarian mother. I asked her if she had any tips in caring for the kitten and she said "you might not want to let a kitten eat to much to quickly when they're really hungry because they are likely to get the runs".
If you need any tips or suggestions about taking care of her don't hesitate to ask and I'll pass on your questions on to my mother.

Yeah, we've already cut back on its food intake.  Now we just have to hope it survives this first month.  But I'll keep that in mind, thanks Sheppard.  :)
