There have been unsubstantiated rumours floating about that RD will commence filming in September and that they are doing 2 series at once.....

....well, Craig Charles has announced on the radio that filming begins in January and that there are indeed 2 (yes two) series in the pipeline. It is available on i-Player at about 1hr 21mins (if you can all listen. I'm not sure... )http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00skpsx/Janice_Long_03_06_2010/

Transcript reads "...the Smegheads are a thing from... em..., it's from the Red Dwarf days, isn't it? Which I can now announce - we're going to be doing two more series of it. Starting in January next year."

[Production guy, muffled since he clearly doesn't have a mic, asks something like "Is that like a proper exclusive?"]

"That is an exclusive mate! What d'y'think?"

[Production guy: "That's pretty impressive."]

"Gone a bit nervous."

[Pg: "Were you meant... are you allowed to say that?]

"Emmm... no. But I got the call today and it said 'Craig, can you do it in January?' I said 'Yeah, I'll sort it out.' So I will be able to do it in January and... emm... I'm a bit nervous though - I don't know if I'll be able to fit into leather trousers anymore."

Robert Llewellyn has confirmed via Twitter that there is news, but won't say what.....also, Craig admitted that he isn't yet supposed to announce it!!

If you are unfamiliar with Red Dwarf, it is essential viewing. Must see for fans of either sci-fi or UK comedy. You have loads of time to catch up. There are only 55 28 minute episodes including last years Easter specials

Meds

And of course download all the scuttercast podcasts. Essential listening.

Great news, 2 series in one go. That's ideal. Is it BBC? Is it Dave? Either way it's gonna be great. Maybe news will come out quicker because of Dimension Jump not going ahead as planned.

I believe it is still the Dave commissioned show. I'm hoping it isn't 2x 3 part specials like BtE. But logically, that would make sense. If it is 2x 3 part specials I'm guessing it will an Easter broadcast and maybe a christmas broadcast. But Andrew Ellard did announce at the Dimension Jump convention last year that 6 scripts with a possibility of more was commissioned...

My personal opinion is that BtE didn't work as a 3 parter. The DVD viewed as a single entity was infinately better than the 3 part broadcast

Feathers

Talk of two three-parters and my heart sinks a bit. I nearly bailed out of episode 2 last time around.

I'd much prefer a set of stand-alone episode scripts (ideally, good ones!).

I know it's unnusual here but I don't have a podcast of my own.

I pretty sure that's the way they'll go. One thing BtE did was to set up a new scenario and direction to the show. A life goal for Lister to aim for is what they needed to set up a new series...
