Indy 4 is not even out yet and George is already looking at Indy 5.

Here's a new little piece I found on slice of sci fi..

George Lucas stated in an interview this week that he already has plans for a fifth Indy movie with Shia LaBeouf as the lead and Harrison Ford coming back like Sean Connery did in Indy 3. He also said that he has yet to officially let Steven Spielberg or Harrison Ford know about his story idea. When asked about this Ford, now 65, stated he knew nothing about Lucas' plans for a fifth film but as far as he is concerned "Till they tell me otherwise, I will continue to be Indiana Jones."

This seems to happen after every semi-succesful movie for a few months. What confuses me is why keep doing Indy films and totally say no more Star Wars films? If Lucas thinks the demand is there for Indy he has to know there is a demand for Star Wars movies. Just my humble opinion...
Ripley: Ash. Any suggestions from you or Mother?
Ash: No, we're still collating.
Ripley: [Laughing in disbelief] You're what? You're still collating? I find that hard to believe.

On the Star Wars side - he is doing both the Clone Wars animated series and the live action show.  So I'm guessing that's enough Star Wars for George to work on right now.  As far as another Indy I think part of it seems the main players had a great time making this one so if they get another good script they like I could see another movie.  I'm not a big fan of the idea of a passing the whip idea.  There is only one Indiana.

worst...idea...ever...George must be drunk

I don't know. This sounds interesting. I mean how many times have we wondered what happens after the hero sails into the sunset?

I thought Lucas was not doing much on the live action in the sense of directing? He was using the show as a opportunity for young up and coming directors? Not to say that he will not be busy doing other production type things....

Oh, I doubt he will be directing much.  But he has his hand in everything else.

No, no no. I think they should put the fedora and whip away after this one, go out on a high. Harrison IS the franchise, no question. Shia i'm sure can hold his own but we've had young Indiana Jones with a older Indy (including the episode with Ford in it) at the end of the episodes so thats been done. Indy film with little Indy in it wel you may as well call it The Mummy.

I've been reading a lot of negative reactions to Lucas' comments on a few boards I frequent

I don't see how people can have an opinion on Mutt yet.  Unless they've seen special advance screenings of the film.

For all we know, Mutt could be as great a character as Indy, and we'd all love to see his solo adventures.  Unlikely, to be sure, but theoretically possible.

We'll know at the end of the week, I guess.

Lucas must be smoking crack if he thinks LaBeouf can carry the Raiders franchise.  He needs to let the series die gracefully, not milk it to death.     :smilie_bleh:

Sometimes I think people don't get it when George is joking around.  I've heard him quoted on things before and later it came out he was kind of just kidding around.  Maybe that's what he was doing this time.  I wouldn't get too worked up yet.  Indy 4 isn't even out until later this week.

I hope you're right about George's sense of humor, Rico.  Sometimes I don't know if he is just kidding around, or if he has lost touch with reality.  I remember a story about him asking Harrison to do a new Star Wars film before the production of Indy 4 was announced; maybe the Indy 5 story is a similar joke.
