Actor ROY SCHEIDER, who played the heroic Amity police chief that "hated the water" in 'Jaws' and 'Jaws 2,' has died of cancer. He was 75 years old.
Scheider passed away at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, the Associated Press reports. The AP says he was being treated for a blood disease known as multiple myeloma, or cancer of the plasma cell.

Born in New Jersey, Scheider had small parts in numerous '70s films such as 'The Marathon Man' and 'The French Connection,' before playing choreographer BOB FOSSE in the Broadway movie, 'All That Jazz.'
But he hit gold with his turn as harried Chief Martin Brody in the 'Jaws' shark films. In 2005, one of his most famous lines -- "You're gonna need a bigger boat" -- landed at No. 35 on the American Film Institute's list of best quotes from U.S. movies.
