I know this isn't a life threatening situation like Rick Moyer just had or some illness...but its unhappy news.  I feel that I can trust people with this information.......

I just looked at my college Fall Term Grades and it came out to this:

**This is for a Computer Engineering Degree at Oregon Institute of Technology**

Intro To Computers: A
Digital Logic:           D
Math 100:              D
Psychology 201:      D

Combined with my 2 English courses I took previously that gives me the following GPA:
2.13

This means I'm in an Academic Warning and it also means my scholarships are likely to disappear forever.  I know this isn't as bad as it sounds, but I would like prayers from people in this forum.  Its going to be a very difficult month just because of this.  I've been and probably will be for a while quiet on the forums.

Thanks....

Ever sincerest regards...

Hang in there man, drink lots of coffee, work hard, you are a smart guy, you can pull through this.

Anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Hope things go well.

Tim,
Sorry to hear about that.  This is your first term at college, right?  I know I had a few tough classes when I first got to college.  It does get easier.  My older son is in his second year and has gotten a pretty good study routine down.  College is hard, no question about it.  You really need to have a nice, quiet place to study.  Also, get help as much as you can during the semester.  Don't fall behind because it's very hard to catch back up.  Colleges have many resources to get extra help.  Don't hesitate to use it.  Hang in there.

Tim,

You can definitely turn things around but it will cost you something and that something may even mean getting rid of easy INTERNET access or any other hobbies you may have that are a distraction to you. I'd hate to see you lose your scholarships. Good luck and get your priorities together and you can do this!

Well this may help...

I was in the same (actually maybe even slightly worse) situation at the end of my first year of my undergrad. My marks ranged from C to F (more on the F side). I was initially kicked out of school, but after an impassioned letter they let me back in on academic probation. I picked things up and graduated with a 2.8 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 graduating GPA.

College is an adjustment, a lot of people have a bad first year. I'm sure you are more then able to pick things up.

I'll pray for you. Hang in there Tim. I was put on academic probation after a semester during my sophomore year of college. I was planning a wedding that semester and my grades dropped big time. Luckily our wedding was during the winter break and when I came back, I knuckled down and pulled out a 4.0. I was actually on the President's List.

If I can do it, you certainly can! You're a smart guy. Just eliminate all distractions and make school your priority. Chin up...Chest out soldier.

I never went to University, but technical college, and I agree with sentiments of the others, you can pull through. I know when I took computer systems, I also took a law course, and basically just passed it, but it really did not relate to Computers so I was not to concerned. For me I put my focus on the core subjects, and the others enough to pass them

Now I'm no going to try and be mean here, but I'm going to be honest. I am Rico's son and in my second year at Michigan State U. Firstly, I think the thread title is a little inappropriate, in the end they are just grades and you can turn them around. It just so happens you did poorly.

Secondly, you need to look at yourself first and foremost. You get back what you put into your school work. If you put in crap, then you will get crap back out. Not trying to be offending, but you get what you put in.

I bust my butt up at school and so far I've done pretty well in some fairly difficult classes (Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology is my major). It is because I find the schedule that works for me and I don't mess around. I study hard and study smart. I have a life outside of school work, but I know that when I need to crack down I do it.

My biggest suggestion for you is to look at what you did this past semester. See what you did wrong, figure out what you did right and move on. You can't sulk in the past. You can't change the grades you got just do better the next time. If you learn from your poor grades and change your study skills then doing poorly will be a good thing for you. Yet, if you continue to put forth a below average effort and don't change then you will continue to make the same mistakes and get the same grades. My 2 cents.

KingIsaacLinksr

Yea, I changed the thread title, it was hastenly written.

About what I did, I tried my best at what I did.  Heck, I studied for my finals for quite a while.  I honestly thought I would pass the classes, but apparently I was lied to.  I don't know, thats how I feel.  I don't want to blame any teachers, but one teacher really screwed me over this term because she lacked any sort of teaching ability.  And by this, I mean that we were given tests THEN taught about what they had on them.  This got so wrong when she actually could not answer one of our classmate's question then basicly told us that it was "black magic".....more than 1 person almost left the room.

I'm going to try harder next term....but it looks like I get the same teacher...which is just great.

You'll learn quickly that in college much of the time your teachers are irrelevant. No one's holding your hand. YOU need to study and YOU need to learn the material. Teachers are great for explaining things that you are having issues with but don't assume that having 'good' teachers will carry you through. It's all up to you.

KingIsaacLinksr

Still, how do you study for something if you don't even know what its going to be about?  They don't follow books and she didn't release a plan for the term....hard to predict the future.

I'd suggest you email your professor and that if your professor doesn't appease you or write you back that you jump over their head and go to someone that is above them until it is dealt with correctly.

Yet, in order to this you need to show you have put forth effort in trying to figure out what the professor wants. If a professor doesn't even have a syllabus then that is a problem.
