This is one of my favorite movie trilogiesâ€"I watch it as often as I watch Star Wars. I read the books after I saw the movies and fell in love Tolkien's writing style.

I think my favorite character is Eowyn (the princess of Rohan). She lived with grace and dignity during hard times and made her way through it all as a strong, determined woman in a man's world... and she didn't have to smoke a cigar to pull off the "tuff" image. I like Arwen as well, but her role is so small in the novels...I'm glad that she got to do something in the movies. Do you love these movies as much as I do? Which character is your favorite?

I'm working on a costume, based on one of Eowyn's gowns, for Renfest this October...but I'll be going as an elf not a human. What can I say? I just like pointy ears!  The ear tips will come in handy for the Vulcan costume I'll be wearing to the company halloween party.

Each weekend, at the Texas Renaissance Festival, is themed... and the weekend we're going is  "fantasy weekend". My friend Angela and her cronies are going as fairies, complete with wingsâ€"I guess I'll be their Tolkien...I mean token elf.

Here's the costume my outfit is based onâ€"I've taken artistic license...if it's cold, I'll be wearing a brown wool robe over it. Angela and I will post pictures when our trip to Renfest is over (October 13 and 14th).

I enjoyed the magic of the books in high school and wanted to be like "Strider" of course.

Nowadays I'm much more of a Tom Bombadil, ( just not as old!).

Should be a great time Jen and I'm sure your costume will be excellent.  I love the Lord of the Rings.  Books and movies.  I need to re-watch all the films now on the big new HDTV!

As far as a triology of films is concerned LOTR is very much superioir to Star Wars, although Star Wars will always for me have a much stronhger emotional bond with my heart as an original generation fan. I read LOTR in grade school and have probably re-read them 4-5 times since, especially as the films were being made. Favorite character? Tough to say. Love the 7 memebers of the Fellowship, but from a perfromance and emotional standpoint, Gollum, as CGI and voiced and acted by Andy Serkis steals the show.

I LOVE LORD OF THE RINGS!!!!!!  I read it when I was young.. at least I tried.. can't remember if I got through it all. It's a very dense book at twelve. But when the movies came out I fell in love and went back and read then listened to the entire triology.  I don't know if I can pick just one character, but I can pick my favorite group of people... Hobbits. Maybe because I'm short but I love there lifestyle of eat, drink and be merry, they are true friends, hard workers and love nature... hmmm sounds like someone I know. If I had to choose my favorite Hobbit I guess I would pick Sam...a simple gardener who turns into the Hero of the story, the one who holds everything together.  There are so many great characters in this story it' s hard to choose just one.

God I miss texas ren fair. They don't have a fourth of the room here. Not even room for real jousting here.

Star Wars and LOTR are some of he few movies thatmy wife and I completely agree on.  If she ever says "Let's watch LOTR this weekend", I usually am right there ...."yeah, that's sounds cool"

They are, IMO, the three best fantasy movie ever made in scope and beauty.  While everything from the books is not in the movies, they don't really ever....stray, I guess from the books either.  I love them.
I think it was Socrates who spoke the immortal words:  I drank WHAT?

I think the Lord of the Rings Movies were fantastic, so much to them, and I loved being swept away to that world. I started reading the books a few years back, and got through 1 and a half, but then got sidetracked. I will have to try again, as the Fellowship of the rings added in a lot more to the story for me. Look forward to hearing more about your Costume Jen.

I love the LOTR movies and the books. I first read The Hobbit and the Fellowship of the Ring in high school. I re-read TFOTR and read the following two books after high school when I learned that the movies were going to be made.

While reading the books, I really liked Legolas and Gimli. In the movies, I also really like Gollum. His characterization is simply superb despite the CGI. Gandalf is cool too.

And if any of you haven't read The Hobbit yet, you owe it to yourself to read it. It's the book that started everything.
