Meyer Does Not Want 'Star Trek II' Remastered

'It is like saying 'there are synthesizers now, we should take Beethoven's Fifth and re-orchestrate it for synthesizer,' says Abrams' most admired Trek film director.

As much as I enjoy the Star Trek Director's Cut, I completely agree with this. The film stands up very well on it's own, and needs no updating, IMHO.

Although his comparison of orchestrating Beethoven for synthesizer is rather weak, as people have been reworking classics since the classics have existed, incorporating them into all types of different music.

It would be a better comparison to say, "It's like rewriting A Clockwork Orange and changing all the pseudo-Russian words in it to more properly reflect what we think they should have said instead."
Admiral Piett: Impossible! Are calcs proves us otherwise.

I've always admired Nick Meyer.  I think he's a great film maker and writer.  Sometimes it's best to just not rework things and leave them be.  Better to come up with something new I think.
